Oracle Academy played a key role in advancing digital skills and innovation across East Africa through its participation in the AI4EAC Innovation Challenge. As a strategic partner and workshop facilitator, Oracle Academy hosted hands-on learning sessions focused on AI, cloud computing, and low-code application development, equipping university students with practical technology skills to solve real-world challenges across the region.

With engaging workshops designed to inspire and equip the next generation of AI innovators across East Africa, the AI4EAC Innovation Challenge is a flagship initiative of the EAC AI Alliance, a regional program of the EAC, implemented in partnership with the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO), the German Development Corporation (GIZ), UNESCO Campus Africa, JICA, and other partners. The initiative brought together university students from across the region to develop AI-driven solutions for challenges in education, agriculture, trade, and health.

As part of the six-month innovation program, Oracle Academy facilitated two interactive virtual workshops aimed at building practical digital skills among participants. The first session, AI & Cloud computing, introduced students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and cloud technologies using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Participants explored how cloud-based tools can accelerate innovation, support scalable solutions, and provide access to emerging AI capabilities.

The second workshop, low-code application development, focused on helping students rapidly build applications using Oracle APEX. Through hands-on demonstrations and guided activities, students learned how low-code technologies can simplify application development and enable innovators with varying technical backgrounds to create impactful digital solutions.

Throughout the sessions, Oracle Academy Ambassadors highlighted free learning resources, Oracle Cloud technologies, Gen AI capabilities, Oracle APEX, and professional certification pathways available to students through their respective educational institutions. The workshops encouraged creativity, collaboration, and active participation while showcasing the growing role of AI and cloud technologies in solving regional challenges.

The AI4EAC Innovation Challenge also provided students with access to expert mentorship, real-world datasets, networking opportunities, internships, and additional prizes. Oracle Academy’s involvement reinforced its commitment to empowering young innovators with the skills, tools, and confidence needed to shape Africa’s digital future.
