Anna University is a public state university in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, offering various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. In addition to its four university department campuses, it has 13 constituent colleges, three regional campuses (Tirunelveli, Madurai, and Coimbatore), and 593 affiliated colleges. It is well-regarded for its engineering, technology, and applied sciences education. It has received various international rankings, including a QS World University Ranking and a position in the QS WUR Ranking By Subject. The university is recognized for research and strong industry ties.  

Anna University has been a member of Oracle Academy since 2024, with 55+ faculty members from 14 institutions across Tamil Nadu. Through continuous engagements with the Center of University-Industry Collaboration, Board of Studies, and Registrar, Oracle Academy has encouraged the university to adopt the free Java and database curriculum offerings for their campuses, constituent colleges, and government engineering colleges across the state. As part of this initiative, Anna University organized a two-day workshop November 5-6, 2025, for 31 faculty members from 19 institutions for Oracle Academy training in curriculum and resources.

Workshops feature Java, Database, Oracle Cloud, and AI

The audience had the powerful experience of learning from the Oracle technology experts about Java, Oracle Database, Oracle Cloud, and the latest AI features of Oracle AI Database, along with industry insights and real-world use cases.

The workshop began with Dr. V. Kumaresan, Registrar, Anna University, welcoming all the participants and giving an overview on the objectives of the workshop. Dr. P. Ganesh Kumar, Deputy Director, Academic Courses, introduced the speakers and provided direction on how the audience could make the best use of the workshop.

Anuradha Sharma, Head of Oracle Academy South Asia, gave a detailed overview of Oracle Academy free resources and explained how the faculty members can prepare students for fulfilling careers by integrating Oracle technologies into their teaching, thereby ensuring students are equipped with hands-on practice in industry-relevant skills.

On Day 1, “Unearth the Power of Oracle Database through Oracle Academy”, the audience had the opportunity to learn about Oracle and its technologies and products through a meticulously crafted set of presentations and demonstrations by Oracle tech experts Daksh Velayutham, Principal Cloud Architect, and Vinake P, Senior Solution Engineer. These curated sessions on Oracle Database introduced attendees to the wide range of features and helped them understand how they could leverage Oracle technologies in their teaching, empowering students to explore new tools and gain hands-on experience with industry-leading solutions.

Following this was a deep dive session and demo on Oracle Cloud and AI by Anand Sailam, Master Principal Architect, whoprovided faculty members the opportunity to engage directly with Oracle’s cloud-based solutions and artificial intelligence technologies. The demonstrations allowed participants to see how they could use these tools in their teaching and research.

Mr. Bhuvaneswaran B, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, one of our expert faculty members, delivered a detailed walk through Oracle Academy database curriculum, followed by best practices session by Ms. Christina J and Dr. Gopalakrishnan, Loyola-ICAM College of Engineering and Technology, who shared their experiences in teaching database curriculum to their respective students.

Day 1 concluded with a hands-on session on the Oracle Academy Member Hub delivered by Bharadwaj Asokan, Oracle Academy Lead Program Manager, South Asia.

On Day 2, the workshop heavily focused on Oracle Academy Java curriculum. Safiya Patel, Trainer, Oracle Academy, provided a detailed walkthrough of Java curriculum. Next, a deep dive on Java technology and industry use cases was delivered by Harsha K R, Consultant Member Technical Staff, Oracle Health, helping the audience gain insights and knowledge about the technology.

Hands-on Practice and Useful Training Lead to Outstanding Scores

Attendees also had the opportunity to do hands-on practice sessions in accessing teaching resources through the Oracle Academy Member Hub. They were provided with instant access to the Member Hub and so were able to explore the live environment on their own systems simultaneously. Each educator also was provisioned with an Oracle Cloud Free Tier account.

By the end of the workshop, the faculty members had received thorough training in Oracle Academy Java and database curriculum along with other free resources offered by Oracle Academy.

A snapshot of the feedback received from the participants:

  • More than 97% of the participants found the workshop to be extremely useful for them and their students
  • About 98% of the participants confirmed their willingness to learn and teach Oracle Academy curriculum to their respective students within the next 6 months
  • About 74% of the participants were keen to teach Database curriculum, while 70% of them wanted to start with Java curriculum
  • Close to 98% of the participants mentioned that they would recommend Oracle Academy to their peers and students
  • Overall, with a stunning satisfaction score of 97%, the participants mentioned that the workshop was highly valuable, engaging, and rewarding
