Last week, the Oracle Academy North America team was pleased to launch the new Oracle Academy Tech Chat podcast. Throughout this podcast series, Tyra Crockett, Senior Manager, Oracle Academy North America, talks with members of the Oracle community on a variety of topics.

In the second episode of the podcast, Tyra speaks with Oracle Academy curriculum developer and former high school teacher Alyssa Cotton, and her former student Zach Dinch. Tyra, Zach and Alyssa talk about how Oracle Academy helped prepare Zach for college, and subsequently his future career. Alyssa also offers a peek into her classroom.

Alyssa tells listeners how she utilized Oracle Academy’s Database Design and Programming with SQL and Database Foundations courses to help prepare students to take the Oracle Database Foundations Associate professional certification exam. Zach explains how learning SQL helped prepare him to pass the Oracle Database Foundations Associate and Oracle Database 11 SQL Fundamentals 1 exams. Zach articulates that he believes passing these exams and becoming Oracle certified set him apart from other college applicants.

Zach and Alyssa also offer words of wisdom for students planning to enter college and for teachers who are currently teaching high school computer science.
