On March 31, 2023, Oracle Academy collaborated with the Department of Computer Sciences of Accra Technical University to host a Faculty Day. It was themed ‘Innovation as a Tool for Improved Technical Education,’ and more than 300 students and lecturers engaged in the event.

The event opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Wisdom Torgby, Head, Computer Science Department, Accra Technical University. He expressed his delight with Oracle Academy for organizing the event and mentioned he is looking forward to many more opportunities that the program has to offer.

Ransford Mills, Oracle Applications Account Manager, East West Africa, and Eric Hagan, Oracle Services Account Manager, EMEA, gave the opening remarks on behalf of Oracle. Eric traveled down memory lane, recalling how he was once a student in the Department of Computer Science, Accra Technical University, and was happy that Oracle Academy has offered him an opportunity to give back to his alma mater. He urged the students to take the program seriously and constantly look out for opportunities.

It was followed by an introduction of Oracle Academy activities and a demo by Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa.

An introduction to Oracle Cloud was presented by Emmanuel Anguah, Cloud Sales Lead, Oracle West Africa, after which Yao Roger Kouassi, Cloud Engineer, Oracle, conducted a training session on Oracle Cloud with a live hands-on lab.

Nicky le Jay, Principal Oracle Talent Advisor, took over with an Oracle Talent Advisory presentation, followed by Kevin Kabuye, Cloud Adoption Sales Consultant from Oracle University, with a presentation on the learning and certification opportunities Oracle University offers.

After the interactive sessions, students had the opportunity to ask relevant questions of the speakers. Later, there was a networking/mentorship opportunity for the students with the Oracle Ghana team members who were present at the event.
