Oracle Academy collaborated with Covenant University, to host a ‘Town and Gown’ workshop themed ‘Navigating the Evolving Technology Landscape for a Successful IT Career: Insights from Oracle Academy’.
The hybrid event was held at the prestigious Covenant University campus, Ota, Nigeria, on April 6, 2023.
The event was attended by over 200 students who joined in-person and virtually. It was graced by speakers from Oracle and Covenant University:

Danny Gooris gave the opening remarks by thanking all the participants for creating time to attend. He said he had the opportunity to visit Covenant University some years ago and he recognized that it was one of the World’s Best Universities by ranking. He gave some tips on how students can navigate their IT career. He advised that they can gain a strong foundation, get hands-on experience and be devoted to continuously learning and grow their skills via Oracle Academy resources, such as the Career Learning Center, Oracle Academy Cloud Program, and Oracle Academy Education Bytes among others.
Bekere Amassoma presented on the Oracle Academy, which advances technology education around the world to increase knowledge, innovation, skills development, and diversity. She explained how Oracle Academy provides access to the latest tools and technologies to help educators increase student success and develop career-ready skills in the era of cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science.
Olagoke Orija delivered two engaging sessions which included presentations and hands-on lab training. He covered Oracle Data Management and also ran some hands-on labs. He explained that with Database Management Cloud Service, DBAs get a unified console for on-premises and cloud databases with lifecycle database management capabilities for monitoring, performance management, tuning, and administration. He also mentioned that organizations are able to optimize SQL with real-time SQL monitoring and simplify database configurations.
The workshop progressed with Oracle Volunteers; Adeola Adenubi; Wasiu Lawal; Tajudeen Oyebanji and Opeoluwa Osisanya serving as guest mentors to share their career progression story and how it has evolved over the years. The very engaging session was followed by a Q and A session with the students who found their stories relatable and encouraging.
Later, Nicky Le Jay shared some talent advisory tips emphasizing the need for relevant soft skills and building a good profile online.
