Gachon University, the first institution in Korea to establish an AI Convergence College, invited Abraham Kim, Oracle CSS Learning Solutions Sales Specialist, Jehun Lee, Oracle Principal Cloud Architect, and Jean Shin, Oracle Academy Country Manager, to conduct a session titled “Multicloud-based Database and Architecture for the AI Era” on September 19, 2024. This session aimed to educate faculty and students about Oracle’s diverse business areas and the necessity of cloud computing, and conducted practical hands-on-labs for efficient system architecture using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Abraham started the session by explaining how Oracle has transitioned from a database company to a cloud-focused enterprise. Mentioning the importance of cloud computing, and categorizing cloud services into private, public, and hybrid clouds based on service operation type, he introduced the strategic emergence of multi-cloud environments. These involve utilizing infrastructure and services from multiple cloud providers for building and managing IT infrastructure, applications, and services.
He also highlighted OCI and its potential applications in educational institutions. Additionally, he presented AI technologies that contribute to cloud management, autonomous operations, data management improvements, error and cost reduction, enhanced security, and improved data center operations.
In the next session, Jehun conducted a practical hands-on-lab on system architecture using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Prior to the workshop, students created and activated their OCI accounts, based on their instructor’s guidance, through the Oracle Academy Cloud Program. During the session, students added compartments, checked available resources, created compute instances, opened OS firewalls, and monitored resources. In the latter part of the session, they created an Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) and conducted performance tests through SQL query executions.
Students, who were experiencing OCI’s cloud resource structure for the first time, actively participated and asked questions. The two speakers and moderators, Jehun and Abraham, responded at the students’ level, helping them gain familiarity with cloud computing through OCI.

After Jehun and Abraham’s sessions, the educators who attended this workshop promised to prepare diverse and high-quality lectures through ongoing collaboration with Oracle Academy. Meanwhile, students expressed their determination to actively utilize Oracle Academy resources in their project assignments as they prepared themselves for future careers as qualified professionals.
오라클 아카데미, 가천대학교 학생들에게 멀티 클라우드 지식과 기술 함양
가천대학교 워크샵에서 교수진과 학생들에게 오라클의 다양한 비즈니스 영역과 클라우드 컴퓨팅에 대해 교육하고, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) 를 활용한 실습을 진행하였습니다
한국 최초로 AI 융합학부를 설립한 가천대학교에서 2024년 9월 19일 ‘멀티클라우드기반의 AI시대데이터베이스 및 아키텍처”라는 주제로 김현웅 오라클 CSS 러닝솔루션 세일즈 본부장, 이재훈 오라클 수석 클라우드 아키텍트, 신지현 Oracle Academy 한국총괄매니저를 초청하였습니다. 본 세션에서 강연자들은 오라클의 다양한 비즈니스 분야와 클라우드 컴퓨팅의 필요성에 대해 교육하고, OCI를 활용한 효율적인 시스템 아키텍처 실습을 진행하였습니다.
김현웅 본부장은 오라클이 데이터베이스 회사에서 클라우드 중심의 기업으로 전환한 과정을 설명하며 클라우드 컴퓨팅의 중요성과 서비스를 운영 유형에 따라 프라이빗, 퍼블릭, 하이브리드로 분류하여 멀티클라우드 환경의 전략적 출현을 소개하였습니다. 그는 멀티클라우드 제공업체의 인프라와 서비스를 활용하여 IT 인프라와 애플리케이션, 서비스를 구축하고 관리하는 방법을 강조하였습니다.
그는 또한 교육 기관 역시 활용도가 높은 OCI에 대해 설명하고, 클라우드 관리, 자율 운영, 데이터 관리 개선, 오류 및 비용 절감, 보안 강화, 데이터 센터 운영 개선에 기여하는 AI 기술들을 소개하였습니다.
이어지는 세션에서 이제훈 부장은 OCI를 활용한 시스템 아키텍처 실습을 진행하였습니다. 학생들은
Oracle Academy Cloud Program 과 담당교수의 사전 지도를 통해 OCI 계정을 생성하고 활성화한 후, 컴파트먼트 추가, 가용 리소스 확인, 컴퓨트 인스턴스 생성, OS 방화벽 오픈, 리소스 모니터링을 실습하였습니다. 후반부에는 Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW)를 생성하고 SQL 쿼리 실행을 통해 성능 테스트를 수행하였습니다.
OCI의 클라우드 리소스 구조를 처음 접한 학생들은 적극적으로 참여하고 질문하였고, 두 강연자및 진행자는 학생들의 눈높이에 맞춰 응답하며 OCI를 통한 클라우드 컴퓨팅에 대한 이해를 돕는 데 주력하였습니다.
가천대학교 AI/소프트웨어학부의 최성자 교수는 “Oracle Academy Cloud Program을 통해 매 학기 데이터베이스 수업을 진행해왔고, 이를 계기로 본 워크숍에 오라클 전문가들을 초청하게 되어 매우 기쁘다. 이론적 접근과 실습 교육의 균형을 통해 실무 인재를 양성하는 데 기여하고자 한다”라고 밝혔습니다.
세션 후, 참석한 교수진들은 Oracle Academy 와의 지속적인 협력을 통해 다양한 고품질 강의를 준비하겠다고 다짐했습니다. 한편, 학생들은 향후 IT전문가를 준비하는 과정에서 오라클 아카데미의 리소스들을 적극 활용하겠다는 의지를 보였습니다.
