In Sri Lanka, more than 65 higher education institutions are members of Oracle Academy and have access to Oracle Academy education technology resources for their faculty and students. In a recent visit, Oracle Academy staff engaged with faculty and institutional leadership, reinforcing our current memberships and collaborations as well as enhancing the overall value we provide and opening doors for new potential collaborative opportunities.

In addition to strengthening relationships with member institutions, the visit helped raise awareness about the critical role of technology in the economy and the ways Oracle Academy supports educational initiatives. The visit included several key interactions with local institutions.

At the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka (VTA), Oracle Academy formalized its partnership through the signing and exchanging of a Partnership Agreement, creating opportunities to enhance educational experiences for faculty and students. The Oracle team visited VTA on September 13, 2024, to conduct an Oracle Academy orientation session and discuss the implementation of Oracle programs in VTA centres, reinforcing the partnership.

At the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) in Colombo, Oracle Academy representatives highlighted additional resources to support the faculty and students beyond the existing curriculum in database and Java programming. This meeting, led by Mrs. Gangani Wicramasinghe, Director of the School of Computing and Engineering, and Dr. Thisara Weerasinghe, Head of the Computer Science Department, provided new avenues for collaboration.

Oracle Academy in Sri LankaThe University of Kelaniya was another key stop during the visit, where Oracle Academy representatives met with the Dean and faculty members of the Computer Science Department, including Prof. Ruwan Wickramarachchi and Mr. Dinesh Asanka. The discussion focused on current curriculum offerings, technology integration, and exploring potential Oracle resources that could help address education and skill gaps.

In addition, the Oracle Academy team met with Oracle’s Regional Senior Sales Director, Technology, Annie Teo, and her team, where they gained insights into how different Oracle teams operate. This experience opened the door for potential cross-team initiatives and highlighted opportunities for collaboration that could amplify the impact of Oracle’s programs.

Led by Anuradha Sharma, Head of Oracle Academy, South Asia, accompanied by Neema MM, Program Manager, the visit focused on several key areas. Oracle representatives showcased Oracle Academy resources to educators and students, particularly in the fields of computer science and database management, with the goal of advancing technological skills in areas like Cloud Infrastructure, Database Programming, Java and Project Management. This initiative aims to better prepare students from classroom to careers.
