As one of the leading platforms for discussing Africa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and innovation potential, African Summit on Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ASENTI) brought together top innovators, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders from across the continent. The Summit was held on October 1, 2024, in Accra, Ghana.
A major highlight of Oracle Academy’s involvement at ASENTI 2024 was participation in a panel session titled “Education and Technology.” This session focused on the intersections between digital learning, skills development, and how technology can help bridge educational gaps across Africa. Bekere Amassoma, Oracle Academy Program Manager SSA, offered insights into how educational institutions and technology companies can work together to equip Africa’s youth with the digital skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.
During the session, Bekere answered several key questions posed by the moderator. She emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in closing the skills gap. By leveraging the expertise of technology companies and the reach of educational institutions, organizations and communities can create programs that offer practical, hands-on learning experiences aligned with market needs. Through internships, apprenticeships, and training programs, students can gain the digital skills needed to excel in the job market, particularly in fields like coding, data science, and cloud computing.
Oracle Academy believes that technology can be a powerful equalizer. Bekere shared how digital learning platforms and affordable technology tools can provide access to quality education for students in underserved and rural areas. By working with local governments and NGOs, organizations can drive to make education accessible to marginalized communities, including girls and students with disabilities, using e-learning platforms, digital classrooms, and innovative online resources.
Later on, a recognition award was presented to Oracle Academy in appreciation of its continuous effort in fostering technology for education in Africa. The award reflects the program’s dedication to transforming education through technology and recognizes the innovative approach of combining technology with education to create a more inclusive and forward-thinking learning environment for students across Africa.
Similarly, Oracle Academy was awarded the ‘Excellence in Education Philanthropy Award’ on September 28, 2024, in Accra, Ghana, at the 5th Mentorship and Volunteerism Excellence Summit and Awards. The award was in recognition of program’s remarkable positive impact in the sub-Saharan region, particularly in the field of technology. The prestigious Mentorship and Volunteerism Excellence Awards celebrates individuals, groups and organizations based on the spirit of mentorship and volunteerism demonstrated through active, unpaid involvement in and contributions to community, country, and the continent. The awards also aim to recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals and organizations in mentorship and volunteerism, promoting a culture of excellence and social impact.
The MVE Awards marks the final program of the National Mentoring Month (July) and the National Mentoring Day (18 July) celebrations, which also commemorates the Late Nelson Mandela and his legacy (Mandela Day).
