On November 20, 2024, at Oracle’s headquarters in Rome, Oracle Academy, in partneship with Diversity Opportunity Srl, kicked off a new project entirely dedicated to educating and empowering young students in the strategic use of emerging technologies.
“Java Journey with Oracle Academy” is the initiative that, between November 2024 and April 2025, will deliver four educational sessions to 20 students from technical high schools in Rome. This project represents a unique opportunity for young talent to explore the potential of applied computer science, immersing themselves in a stimulating and educational corporate environment.
This inaugural session was designed to introduce participants to a highly professional development environment, an essential tool for tackling the project challenge that will shape the entire program. The main goal of the initiative is to design and develop a digital application combining strategic tools based on artificial intelligence with recreational and relational activities from everyday life. It is a complex and ambitious theme, perfectly aligned with the emerging skills demanded by today’s job market.
Throughout the day, the students had the opportunity not only to familiarize themselves with Oracle’s technological infrastructure but also to participate in practical sessions led by industry experts. These workshops provided the students with a detailed introduction to the development tools that will be used in the upcoming sessions. Through practical demonstrations and interactive discussions, the participants acquired their first essential skills to refine their innovative ideas.
One particularly appreciated aspect of the event was its interactive format. The company created an open and inclusive environment, encouraging the students to ask questions and discuss their ideas. This approach stimulated critical thinking and boosted their confidence in using the technologies presented.
“It was an incredible experience. We had the chance to see up close how work is done in a professional setting and to learn new things we never would have discovered at school,” said one of the students at the end of the day.
The initiative will continue in the coming months with additional sessions, during which the students, divided into teams, will work on designing and developing their applications. The program will culminate with the presentation of their projects before a panel of IT sector managers, a decisive moment highlighting the skills the students have acquired and the innovative potential of the solutions they have developed.
