Oracle4Girls is an inspiring initiative designed to motivate girls and young women to explore the exciting world of STEM. Its mission is to help close the gender gap in technology by offering hands-on workshops that spark curiosity, boost confidence, and open doors to potential careers in the tech industry.

On January 27, 2025, Oracle4Girls arrived in Seville, at the City of Knowledge in Dos Hermanas, where 66 girls aged 4 to 14 participated in a day full of STEM activities aimed at fostering their interest in technology. Among the various workshops organized, the Oracle Academy’s “Introduction to Java with Alice” workshops stood out. These were led by Alba Joven Alonso, Program Manager at Oracle Academy, with the support of a dedicated team of Oracle Volunteers. Tailored for girls aged 7 to 14, these workshops provided interactive and engaging educational experiences, allowing participants to learn programming concepts through the Alice3 platform.

Alice3 is an educational tool designed to teach programming fundamentals in a visual and accessible way. It enables users to learn coding while creating animations, designing characters, and crafting stories, all within an intuitive, easy-to-use graphical environment.

The workshops were structured into two specific paths, tailored to best fit the different age groups of the participants:

  • Yellow Path (7 to 10 years old): The girls began their programming journey through hands-on activities, designing characters and creating animations, while developing their logical thinking skills.
  • Red Path (11 to 14 years old): This path allowed older participants to work on collaborative projects and explore more advanced programming concepts and problem-solving techniques.

Feedback from the girls and their parents was overwhelmingly positive. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants, who not only immersed themselves in the world of programming but also created their own interactive stories. The pride they expressed at the end of the workshop, as they saw what they had accomplished, was truly contagious. The girls were able to experience firsthand that technology is not only powerful but also fun, and that with effort and dedication, they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

This, without a doubt, is the most rewarding aspect of the Oracle4Girls initiative: opening their eyes to the limitless possibilities of the digital world and showing them that they can become anything they desire.

Oracle4Girls contributes to Oracle Academy’s ongoing commitment to advancing diversity and girls’ participation in STEM and technology fields by providing accessible and inspiring educational opportunities.
