In honor of International Women’s Day, Pwani Teknowgalz, in collaboration with Oracle Academy, hosted a transformative Java and SQL Women in Tech Training Workshop on March 22, 2025, in Mombasa County, Kenya. The event brought together 60 female students pursuing computer science degrees from Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Pwani University, and Mount Kenya University (Mombasa Campus).

The one-day workshop aimed to equip participants with essential skills in Java programming and SQL database management, providing a strong foundation for their future careers in technology. Through a series of hands-on sessions, students were introduced to key programming concepts and practical database techniques, enhancing both their technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.

Beyond the technical training, the workshop featured inspirational talks by Oracle’s Hilda Muthoni, Principal AppsTech Architect; Winnie Jumba, Global Sustainability Ambassador and Technology Commercial Sales Manager; and Lorna Juma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Africa. They shared personal stories of their career journeys, highlighting the challenges they overcame and the milestones they achieved, and providing success tips.
