On Thursday 18th July 36 plucky contenders took part in the Final Logic Championships on Oracle Dev Gym. Over the course of one hour they had to complete a series of seven logic puzzles, covering topics including Mastermind, Futoshiki, and equation solving.
Frustratingly, I made a mistake in one of the quizzes, missing a dot in the Renzoku grid. This meant it had no solution. Sorry we didn’t catch this during the review process. As the correctness can’t be determined for the options, we gave everyone full marks for this question.
With this correction applied we’ve double-checked the scores and the results are now in.
The Champions
First place – Pavel Zeman
This marks back-to-back victories for Pavel who won the 2023 Logic championship. This is his third time taking the top spot with his other victory coming back in 2015. With the second highest lifetime ranking Pavel is a worthy winner once again.
Fantastic work Pavel!
Second place – mentzel.iudith
This marks Iudith’s first time in the top finishers. Her previous best finishes were fourth in 2013 and 2023. This marks a well-deserved top place finish for Iudith. She’s the only person to take every weekly quiz and is the second highest ranked player overall.
Huge congratulations to your dedication Iudith!
Third place – MichalM
A relative newcomer, Michal has qualified for every Logic championship since 2020. Third place falls just short of their best result – second in the past two years. Since becoming a I Love Logic regular Michal has finished in the top 50 monthly players an impressive 44 times.
Great effort Michal!
The top ten is rounded out by:
NielsHecker, Ivan Celerin, Stelios Vlasopoulos, ituglumac, Craig McFarlane, USER387689, and macabre
Congratulations to everyone who took part: qualifying for the championship is an achievement they should be proud of. See below for the complete rankings.
Special Mentions
Stelios Vlasopoulos has long been a top contender in the logic championship. He took the top spot six years in a row from 2017-2022 and is the third highest lifetime ranked player. He’s also helped create puzzles, authoring three logic quizzes.
Over the lifetime of I Love Logic, seven players have competed in every championship. Big congratulations to:
mentzel.iudith, NielsHecker, Stelios Vlasopoulos, Vijay Mahawar, richdellheim, seanm95, and JasonC.
We must also give a huge thanks to Eli Feuerstein, the brains behind the logic quiz. Over the past eleven years he’s written 638 quizzes. Steven Feuerstein also deserves credit for authoring 61 logic quizzes. We also want to thank Livio Curzola who helped ensure we were publishing quality questions by reviewing 440+ of them.
We’ll finish with one final thanks to everyone who’s submitted answers on the I Love Logic quiz over the years. Its longevity is down to the fantastic community of players who took part. We hope those of you who enjoyed the logic quizzes will like other quizzes we have planned on Oracle Dev Gym.
Looking Ahead
This championship marks the final Logic quiz on Oracle Dev Gym. While it’s sad to say goodbye to an old friend, this allows us to dedicate more time to new quiz formats. Key among these are:
- SQuizL – a daily “guess the SQL statement quiz”.
- Speed SQL – guess the missing keyword from a series of SQL statements. You have ninety seconds in total to solve twenty. This is currently in beta; please send us any comments on it using the feedback form.
The Weekly Database quiz will continue. Following the recent launch of Oracle Database 23ai, this will primarily feature quizzes on this version to help you learn about the latest features. If you’re desperate for your fix of logic puzzling, everyday we’ll pick a random quiz from the library for you to play. See them all on the quizzes page on Oracle Dev Gym.
Final Leaderboard
Here are the final rankings for the contest. The number next to the player’s name is the number of times that player has participated in the Logic championships.
