Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud Backup, Archive, and Restore

What is the EPM Cloud backup, archive, and restore strategy? Thank you to Vinay Gupta, Consulting Member of the Technical Staff, for the presentation on this topic. Oracle Cloud Services Backup Strategy Oracle Cloud Hosting and Delivery Policy states: Oracle periodically makes backups of Your production data in the Oracle Cloud Services for Oracle's sole use to minimize data loss in the event of an incident. Backups are stored at the primary site used to provide the Oracle Cloud Services, and may also be stored at an alternate location for retention purposes. A backup is typically retained online or offline for a period of at least 60 days after the date that the backup is made. Oracle typically does not update, insert, delete or restore Your data on Your behalf. However, on an exception basis and subject to written approval, Oracle may assist You to restore data which You may have lost as a result of Your own actions. For Oracle Cloud Services which enable You to configure backups in accordance with Your own policies, You are responsible for performing backups and restores of Your data, non-Oracle software, and any Oracle software that is not provided by Oracle as part of these services. Additionally, You are encouraged to develop a business continuity plan to ensure continuity of Your own operations in the event of a disaster.  Oracle Cloud Hosting and Delivery Policies   EPM Cloud Daily Backups The daily maintenance window backs up your artifacts and data, and creates Artifact Snapshot. Artifact Snapshot is created primarily to restore your service instance in the case of a catastrophic failure. Oracle recommends that you download the Artifact Snapshot and archive it to a local machine daily so that it can be imported back at a future date, if needed. You can use EPM Automate to automate the downloading and archiving of the daily Artifact Snapshots EPM Automate sample script to automate downloading and archiving daily Artifact Snapshots.   Option to Use Oracle Compute and Storage Cloud Services If you do not want to run the EPM Automate script and archive the daily Artifact Snapshots on-premise, you can acquire Oracle Compute and Storage Cloud services, and run the EPM Automate script and archive the daily Artifact Snapshots in the cloud. Financial Consolidation Cloud Service (FCCS) - Consolidation Performance and Failure Diagnosis

How to self diagnose consolidation failures and performance issues in Financial Consolidation Cloud Service (FCCS)? Thank you to the following people for the presentation on this topic. Prasad Tungaturthy, Director, EPM Shailesh Kumar, Senior Director, EPM Vinay Gupta, Consulting Member of Technical Staff Below are the causes of Consolidation Performance and Functional Issues: 1. Bad application design: Incorrect metadata properties can cause errors during consolidation and poor performance. Best practices for metadata properties can be checked by Simplified Dimension Editor Metadata Validator Fixing the metadata errors are important for consolidation performance and correctness. Documentation on Editing Member Properties in the Simplified Dimension Editor  2. Unnecessary calculations: The consolidation process and steps are clearly documented in FCCS. By default, FCCS performs many calculations during the consolidation process that may not be needed for the customer. Turning some of these calculations off could improve performance: Balance Sheet Calculation - If the Balance Sheet is out of balance, a balancing amount is calculated and posted to a seeded account called "Balance". This is a predefined miscellaneous liability account which is used solely for the purpose of keeping the Balance Sheet balanced. You have the option to disable this calculation if you do not want the system to automatically balance the Balance Sheet for you. Ratios Calculations - Disabling the Ratios Calculations will also give a boost in performance. You cannot disable Ratios on an existing app; therefore, the app will have to be recreated with Ratios unchecked when specifying the creation application options. 3. Poorly written configurations/extensions: The default consolidation logic can be extended by the customer or partner. The customer specific logic is inserted as part of the overall consolidation process and can be written as: Member formulas Calculation logic Translation/consolidation overrides Poorly written logic in these extensions/configurations can severely cause performance degradation 4. Lack of needed house keeping: Clearing Empty Blocks - Keeping the Essbase engine tuned by removing unnecessary data blocks and ensuring the structure is efficiently stored is important for optimal consolidation performance. Dense restructure Doing the necessary house keeping can improve consolidation performance. 5. Software bug/issue: After performing step 1-4 and making the necessary corrections, the consolidation performance may still not be optimal; therefore, turn on Consolidation Logs. Before creating the SR, enable the consolidation logs and submit Provide Feedback, to help Oracle quickly identify the software bottleneck. For more information on Provide Feedback, refer to Using the Provide Feedback Utility to Help Oracle Collect EPM Cloud Diagnostic Information 6. Consolidation Functional Issues: After performing step 1-5 and making the necessary corrections, the consolidation performance may have improved but you may still see some functional issues. Check the Presentation for more information.   References: Presentation - click to view presentation Documentation on Editing Member Properties in the Simplified Dimension Editor Using the Provide Feedback Utility to Help Oracle Collect EPM Cloud Diagnostic Information

How to Optimize Slow Business Rules Identified in an Application Activity Report

As a customer, how can I optimize slow business rules identified in an Application Activity Report? Thank you to the following people for their presentation on this topic. Jane Story, Sr. Principal Applications Specialist Vinay Gupta, Consulting Member of Technical Staff Steps for Optimizing Slow Business Rules 1. Use the Application Activity Report to help find out which business rules are taking the longest time to execute. Make note the business rule/calc script name in the reports. 2. Clone the application from prod service instance to test service instance 3. For each slow running business rule, execute the following steps: Run the business rule from the Calculation Manager Click Create and Manage->Rules from Navigator Navigate to the business rule in the Calculation Manager System View, right click, and select open When the rule opens, click Play Provide RTP values, and click OK   Use Log Messages in Calculation Manager to identify which steps in the rule are taking the longest time. After the business rule is executed, a new Log Messages tab appears with the following columns. Using this information, you can see which pass (or passes) have taken the highest percentage of the total calculation time to run. Optimize the identified steps and run the business rule again to ensure that it takes less time to execute but still calculates correct results and results in correct block creation. The Log Messages tab helps the business rule implementer determine how the total business rule execution time is spread across the number of calculation passes. The start of a new pass is shown in Log Messages with a bold line. View the Pass # and Pass % columns to determine which passes consume most of the total business rule execution time. The sections that take the largest percentage of the total time are the candidates for optimization. After the changes are made, re-run the business rule and compare the log messages. Once the business rules are optimized, migrate the changes back to prod service instance   Refer to the presentation for an example of troubleshooting a business rule before and after updates are made.     References: presentation - click to view presentation

Consequently, the Classic Dimension Editor will not be supported starting with the June 2018 update to the service (June 1, 2018 for test and June 15, 2018 for production instances). File-Based Integration of Data Management with Oracle Fusion Financials Cloud Oracle Fusion Financial Cloud Budgetary Control and Encumbrance Accounting is now fully integrated with Data Management. This enhancement brings the integration of Oracle Fusion Financials Cloud with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud on par with the current, out of the box, file-based integration. As a result, the file-based integration is being phased out starting the September update to the service. If you are using file-based integration between Oracle Fusion Financials Cloud and Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud, Oracle recommends that you adopt this new integration as soon as possible. Financial Reporting Studio Desktop Client Oracle is committed to providing a simple and intuitive user experience. To achieve this, Financial Reporting Web Studio, available since March 2016, will become the only environment for designing and building reports. Oracle is providing additional time for users to transition from Financial Reporting Desktop Studio to Financial Reporting Web Studio. Tentative plans call for functional parity between Financial Reporting Web Studio and Financial Reporting Desktop Studio in 2018, at which time, support for the Desktop Studio will transition to the Web Studio and distribution of the Desktop Studio will cease. This transition is currently planned for the 18.06 update (June 01, 2018 for test and June 15, 2018 for production environments). Oracle recommends that you transition to using Financial Reporting Web Studio at the earliest opportunity. Please send questions and concerns to Oracle using the Provide Feedback option in the service.
