Using the "Powerview" Feature To Automatically Filter Knowledge and Other Regions in the My Oracle Support Portal

Using the Powerview Feature: Oracle has so many products, and if you're like most customers, you are probably only interested in seeing the ones that you use; especially when accessing the Support portal. Using the "Powerview" feature allows you to do just that because it allows you to create and save PowerViews for a specific set of products, turn it on, and automatically filter Knowledge and other regions based on the filter. For those of you who use both "On Premise products for Hyperion and Business Intelligence" (aka Business Analytics) AND Oracle Cloud products (EPM Cloud or BI Cloud), using the Powerview may help be helpful. Depending on your needs, you can create a single Powerview for each of the product lines below or combine them into a single one. Enterprise Performance Management and Business Intelligence Oracle Cloud Below is an example of setting up a Powerview with 2 Product Lines - feel free to create and manage this to fit your specific needs. 1. The "Powerview" feature is located to the right of the "My Oracle Support" section of the screen. 2. Click on "Powerview" > you will see the following selections. 3. Select "Powerview > New" - the following filters/options appear. 4. In this example, we will use "Product Line" to filter on Enterprise Performance Management and Business Intelligence (also known as Business Analytics) and Oracle Cloud. 5. Once you have chosen the selections, you can "Create" it. Notice that you can also name the Powerview; especially if you will be using different filters and powerviews. 6. In this example, I named the Powerview "Business Analytics and Cloud". It now appears when Powerview turned on. The above is used as an example. You can manage the Powerviews and change your filter criteria based on your own specific needs and requirements. For more information on Powerviews, review the following: How to Use PowerView (Doc ID 1629541.1) Discover how to use My Oracle Support - Searching by Product or Support Identifier using PowerView (Doc ID 1544003.1) Click on "Learn More about PowerView" - you can also click here for documentation.

Using the Powerview Feature: Oracle has so many products, and if you're like most customers, you are probably only interested in seeing the ones that you use; especially when accessing the Support...

EPM Cloud: Expected Behavior When You Open Two Cloud Instances in the Same Browser or in Smart View

What happens if you open two EPM Cloud instances in the same browser or in Smart View? Thank you to Nikki Ho, Member of the Technical Staff and Vinay Gupta, Consulting Member of the Technical Staff, for the presentation on this topic. This blog will provide explain the following: The behavior when one EPM Cloud instance is opened in one browser tab, and then another EPM Cloud instance is opened in another browser tab. The behavior when one EPM Cloud instance is connected to Smart View as a private connection, and then another EPM Cloud instance is connected to as another private connection. The behavior is based on: Whether the two instances are in the same data center or different data centers If they are in the same data center, whether the two instances are in the same ID domain or different ID domains Whether an external Identity Provider (IdP) is set up for SAML-based SSO with the ID domains Review the following behaviors and the expected results: Same data center, same ID domain (same behavior whether SSO is configured or not): Browser and Smart View behavior: After the first instance is logged in, going to the second instance connects without a login prompt. Both instances keep working until one is logged off, which logs off both instances. Smart View exception: When both instances are for Profitability and Cost Management Cloud (PCMCS), after the first instance is logged in, going to the second instance displays a "User Authentication Needed“ error. Same data center, different ID domains, SSO not configured: Browser and Smart View Behavior: After the first instance is logged in, going to the second instance gives a prompt for login. Going back to the first instance prompts for login again. The same thing happens for the second instance. Smart View exception: When both instances are for Profitability and Cost Management Cloud (PCMCS), after the first instance is logged in, going to the second instance displays a "User Authentication Needed“ error Same or different data centers, different ID domains, SSO configured: Browser and Smart View behavior: After the first instance is logged in, going to the second instance connects without a login prompt. Both instances keep working until one is logged off, which logs off both instances. Smart View exception: When both instances are for Profitability and Cost Management Cloud (PCMCS), after the first instance is logged in, going to the second instance gives a "User Authentication Needed“ error. Different data centers, different ID domains, SSO not configured: Browser and Smart View behavior: After the first instance is logged in, going to the second instance gives a prompt for login. Both instances keep working. When one is logged off, the other is unaffected. Important Information on Using the Provide Feedback Utility to Help Oracle Collect EPM Cloud Diagnostic Information When Logging A Service Request

WHAT IS "PROVIDE FEEDBACK"? The "Provide Feedback" utility helps Oracle collect diagnostic information to help troubleshoot an EPM Cloud issue. It is NOT intended to be used as a satisfaction survey or personal feedback. This is the ONLY access to logs that Oracle Support has to help you with your issue; therefore, it is critical that you provide as much information as possible. If key diagnostic information is missing from the service requests, this will prolong the amount of time to resolve the problem. IMPORTANT: During the Service Request creation process, it is critical that you provide the Reference Number in response to the question: "Before reporting a problem, Oracle recommends that you submit diagnostic information using the “Provide Feedback” feature.  If you have done so, please enter the Reference that was presented.  If you are not reporting a problem, please enter N/A below.”  Example screenshot below:   For more information on Provide Feedback, check out the following knowledge article and videos: EPM Cloud: How to use “Provide Feedback” to assist technical support in Troubleshooting an EPM Cloud issue (Doc ID 2208548.1) VIDEO: Overview: Help Diagnose Your Issue Faster With Provide Feedback Part I VIDEO: verview: Help Diagnose Your Issue Faster Using Provide Feedback Part II NOTE: While the videos indicate that the Reference Number generated by the Provide Feedback utility should be put in the problem description of the Service Request, Oracle Support requires that the Reference Number be included when you are presented with this question during the SR Creation. Using Extended Dimensionality in Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS)

What do I need to know before using Extended Dimensionality in Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS)? Thank you to Rich Wilkie, Senior Director, Product Management, for the presentation on this topic. Below are the answers to the Frequently Asked Questions about using Extended Dimensionality in FCCS. 1. How do I request extended dimensionality? Requests should follow the one-off patch request process following the additional guidelines in the October, 2018 What’s New: 2. How many dimensions can I have? When Extended Dimensionality is enabled, you can create four Custom dimensions. If the application is enabled with the Multi-GAAP reporting option, you can create three Custom dimensions. 3. When will I receive the update? The target release date for the availability of this one-off patch is mid-October, 2018. You can request it starting now and at any time after that as well. The update will first be applied to the test environment. Production will only be updated when you request it from Support. 4. Will my existing application work once I receive the new functionality? When the Extended Dimensionality update is applied, your existing application will no longer be available. You must create a new application. You cannot modify the number of dimensions in an existing application. After the update is complete, any existing application snapshot cannot be loaded. NOTE:  Existing customers who do not require extra dimensions do not need to do anything and are not affected. 5. Can I use LCM snapshots? Extended Dimensionality is only available for new applications. The Migration Snapshot feature is not available between non-Extended Dimension and Extended Dimension applications. Once you create an application, you can use it within Extended Dimensional environments, you just cannot use it between Extended and non-Extended environments. 7. Will my environment be upgraded automatically the next month? For subsequent releases, if you have Extended Dimensionality, you must also request an update from Oracle Support. NOTE:  This only affects those customers who have requested and are using Extended Dimensions 8. What else is different between extended dimensionality functionality? Custom Dimensions: The default members are exactly the same, except that the “Total Custom” member is now “Dynamic Calc” instead of “Never Share”. Any new parent members that you create in these Custom dimensions must use the Data Storage property of “Dynamic Calc”. Multi-GAAP Dimension: The default Multi-GAAP hierarchy that is created by the application now follows the same paradigm as the Custom dimensions. The Data Storage property for Parent members will be “Dynamic Calc”. Intercompany Dimension: The FCCS_Intercompany Entities parent member is now created as a “Dynamic Calc” member. You do not need to make any changes to this dimension. View Dimension: The system will add three new members under a new parent member “FCCS_View_System Members”: “FCCS_QTD_RULE”, “FCCS_HYTD_RULE”, and “FCCS_YTD_RULE”. QTD, HYTD and YTD member formulas will now be “Never Share” and populated when consolidation is executed. 9. Are there any known issues? For applications that do not have Ownership Management enabled, the values in Proportion and Contribution members for accounts with Time Balance of type “Balance” will be shown incorrectly. This is a known issue that will be fixed in a future release. 10. What if I don’t need extra dimensions? Existing applications that do not need more than two custom dimensions are not affected and no changes or actions are required.  This article is specific to customers who require more than two custom dimensions only.    References: Presentation - click to view presentation by Rich Wilkie, Senior Director, Product Management FCCS Administer FCCS Use Find guides Watch videos Learn what’s new

Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud Backup, Archive, and Restore

What is the EPM Cloud backup, archive, and restore strategy? Thank you to Vinay Gupta, Consulting Member of the Technical Staff, for the presentation on this topic. Oracle Cloud Services Backup Strategy Oracle Cloud Hosting and Delivery Policy states: Oracle periodically makes backups of Your production data in the Oracle Cloud Services for Oracle's sole use to minimize data loss in the event of an incident. Backups are stored at the primary site used to provide the Oracle Cloud Services, and may also be stored at an alternate location for retention purposes. A backup is typically retained online or offline for a period of at least 60 days after the date that the backup is made. Oracle typically does not update, insert, delete or restore Your data on Your behalf. However, on an exception basis and subject to written approval, Oracle may assist You to restore data which You may have lost as a result of Your own actions. For Oracle Cloud Services which enable You to configure backups in accordance with Your own policies, You are responsible for performing backups and restores of Your data, non-Oracle software, and any Oracle software that is not provided by Oracle as part of these services. Additionally, You are encouraged to develop a business continuity plan to ensure continuity of Your own operations in the event of a disaster.  Oracle Cloud Hosting and Delivery Policies   EPM Cloud Daily Backups The daily maintenance window backs up your artifacts and data, and creates Artifact Snapshot. Artifact Snapshot is created primarily to restore your service instance in the case of a catastrophic failure. Oracle recommends that you download the Artifact Snapshot and archive it to a local machine daily so that it can be imported back at a future date, if needed. You can use EPM Automate to automate the downloading and archiving of the daily Artifact Snapshots EPM Automate sample script to automate downloading and archiving daily Artifact Snapshots.   Option to Use Oracle Compute and Storage Cloud Services If you do not want to run the EPM Automate script and archive the daily Artifact Snapshots on-premise, you can acquire Oracle Compute and Storage Cloud services, and run the EPM Automate script and archive the daily Artifact Snapshots in the cloud.
