Updates to the Console and My Services Dashboard in Oracle Cloud

The Oracle Cloud User and Developer Experience team is proud to announce the next suite of usability enhancements for Oracle Cloud. The biggest update includes improving the user experience for the IaaS and PaaS console. It will be easier for you to manage all your Oracle Cloud services — whether they be IaaS, PaaS, and now SaaS — from a single login. The Console and My Services Dashboard are updated to provide a more unified customer experience. These updates will enhance and simplify managing your cloud, but the placement for several key navigational actions will also change. For more information, refer to Console Experience Enhancements Unite IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Updated areas of the Console include: Cost Analysis, Invoices & Subscription ID IDCS Console Access from Tenancy Details PaaS Navigation PaaS Access Management Announcements Live Chat My Home (re-labeled Service User Console) How does this affect me? If you use the Oracle Cloud My Services dashboard to access and manage services, over the next few days you will notice an updated dashboard experience after you sign in. Depending on the services you subscribe to, you will see various visual and navigational changes that are documented here. Most users will see the new Console experience by default, and will no longer need to navigate to My Services to manage their cloud. Do I need to take any action? We recommend reading the announcement blog post so you are familiar with how the upcoming changes may affect navigation to certain features within the console. Do I need to update saved URLs or bookmarks? No. Previously saved URLs will automatically redirect to the new Console experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Change in Enhancement Request Processes That Will Impact Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud Customers

Attention all Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud Customers! On a target date of October 1st, there will be a change in the Enhancement Request (ER) processes that will impact the way you create an ER. Oracle EPM Cloud will be moving the Enhancement Request (ER) processes out of My Oracle Support and into the Idea Labs within Cloud Customer Connect. This move is part of our ongoing initiative to continuously improve the customer experience and transparency of the enhancement request process and delivery. If a service request (SR) is determined to be a product enhancement, customers can decide if they would like to log this as an Idea in the appropriate Idea Lab (or vote on one that is already established in the Lab). Enhancement requests will no longer be created in My Oracle Support. Having ideas within the Idea Labs allows customers to have further conversations with other Oracle EPM Cloud Customers, Partners, and Product Development. This will deliver more transparency on enhancement suggestions by allowing customers to socialize their ideas and the ability to vote on others. Customers will be able to see the periodic updates on the most voted ideas from the EPM Cloud Development team.   Please note the following: Targeted date for this change is October 1, 2019. Training session via Customer Connect is scheduled on September 25 - Click here to register! For more information regarding this change, review the EPM FAQ Document. Note: To view this announcement, you will need to be a member of Oracle Cloud Customer Connect! Sign up now.

Narrative Reporting: European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) Disclosure Management with iXBRL

Thank you to Dave Roberts, Product Management, for his presentation on this topic. What is ESMA and how can I learn about ESMA Disclosure Management with iXBRL for Narrative Reporting? The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published a Feedback Statement setting out the digital format which issuers in the European Union (EU) must use to report their company information from 1 January 2020. It concludes that Inline XBRL is the most suitable technology to meet the EU requirement for issuers to report their annual financial reports in a single electronic format because it enables both machine and human readability in one document. Narrative Reporting with Disclosure Management - ESMA 2020 What does all of this mean as a customer? All issuers in 2020 in the European Union will need to report their annual filing in iXBRL Narrative Reporting is uniquely suited to retrieve data from disparate data sources Narrative Reporting is cross platform compatible with other Oracle products which the customer may need such as TRCS, SDM, PCMCS, FCCS etc. Narrative Reporting can manage both the annual reporting as well as create the needed iXBRL for this requirement Assessing the ESMA Opportunity Starting January 1, 2020, all EU companies (approximately 5,300 issuers) will be required to file their ESMA financials using iXBRL (XHTML w/ embedded XBRL). Server side and client side changes are required to support this opportunity in Narrative Reporting with Disclosure Management and are planned for release 19.02 - 19.04 The ESEF taxonomy is open, based on IFRS and will require companies to extend company specific concepts and anchor these extensions to standardized concepts in the ESEF taxonomy. ESEF sets out that where an extension taxonomy element combines a number of elements of the ESEF taxonomy, issuers shall anchor that extension taxonomy element to each of the elements in the ESEF taxonomy it combines, except where these elements are reasonably deemed insignificant. ESMA requires that all consolidated face financials, such as Balance Sheet, Income Statement , Statement of Cash Flow, and so on must be detailed and tagged and all Notes to Financial Statements be individually tagged as single blocks of text. Regulator iXBRL tagging will be completed in the same manner as other regulators with the exception that any text string or text block tag that is in a language other than English will need to specify the language in the Mapping Tool UI. Disclosure Management Statutory Reporting Made Simple - Mapping allows you to drag and drop XBRL tagging in MS Office Creating XBRL instance documents Full regulatory-specific validation support for ESMA via Arelle plug in View iXBRL document using Arelle plug in Publish in XBRL, iXBRL, EDGAR HTML, PDF, Word ============================================================================================================================= References: Presentation - by Dave Roberts, Product Management Feedback Statement EPM Cloud Documentation

Operational Planning ─ Introducing Unshackled Planning Applications on Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud

Thank you to Manish Daga, Venu Machiraju, Suren Seshadri and Shankar Viswanathan, EPM Product Development, for the presentation on this topic. Free Form Planning Excel workbook models are inefficient. Hybrid BSO in Enterprise Planning Budgeting Cloud Service (EPBCS) - Best Practices, Tips, and Tricks

Thank you to Manish Daga for the presentation on this topic. In addition to the information listed below, please be sure to review the presentation for more detailed information on the case study that was performed and EPBCS Hybrid BSO Tuning Tips. Why Hybrid BSO? Hybrid BSO supports both BSO & ASO Capabilities (all BSO calcs with dynamic aggregations like ASO) Sparse and Dense Parent Members can be made dynamic Reduces database and application size Improves cube refresh performance Reduces time for data export and import Reduces AMW time Improves performance of business rules Improves usability Enabling Hybrid BSO in EPBCS An existing application can be converted to Hybrid by Enabling Hybrid Mode. Note: For Planning and Budgeting applications, the Enable Hybrid option is not available. To enable it, you must first convert your application to Enterprise on the Application Overview page. (You need to be licensed for EPBCS to convert from PBCS to EPBCS.) After the conversion, the Enable Hybrid option will be displayed. What happens when Hybrid BSO is enabled? Before enabling hybrid, best practice validations will be performed on the application. Any validation failure will need to be fixed  before the app is converted to Hybrid. On successful validation, all EPBCS BSO cubes (seeded and custom) are enabled for Hybrid and the modules will be reinitialized so hybrid specific changes will be brought in. Certain sparse parent members are made dynamic in each of the out of box models/ dimensions Appropriate member formula is seeded Business rules are updated to remove rollup’s for dimensions which are dynamic Customizations done before conversion will be retained. You can restore customized member formulas and rules to factory version in case of any calculation issues. You can also make sparse parent members in other dimensions also dynamic (based on application size, planning and reporting requirements). Also, the rollup and other rules in each of the models can be modified based on which sparse parent members have been made dynamic Converting PBCS To Hybrid BSO in EPBCS Convert PBCS App to EPBCS Select Application, then Overview, then Actions, then Convert to Enterprise. Must follow and honor all conversion steps and conversion considerations as documented in the EPBCS Administrator’s Guide. Enable Hybrid BSO Select Application, then Overview, then Actions, then Enable Hybrid Mode. Enabling Modules is Optional Also works with Custom Cubes   EPBCS Best Practices Framework The following best practices are monitored/enforced during cube refresh: Block Size Number of Blocks Number of dense dimensions Max number of child members under any dynamic parent Max number of child members under any store parent Parents with single children for level 1 and above of dimensions Level 1 and above not set to dynamic calc/Label only in Dense dimensions. Usage of dynamic x-refs Apart from this, the following additional best practices are monitored for modules Number of new rules that can be added per module Number of rules that can be modified Number of new forms that can be added per module Number of forms that can be modified   Steps for Enabling Essbase 5xx For Moving to Hybrid BSO: The Hybrid BSO enhancement is available in the latest version of Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud (EPBCS)*. However, this requires updating your environment with the latest Essbase 5xx version. Please follow the steps below so that we can update your environment. Do a cube refresh, and then take an LCM backup of the application on your test environment and download it. This is because the service will be recreated with Essbase 5xx Version, and the application including all snapshots will be deleted. Please note that a successful cube refresh must be completed before taking the LCM backup. After we get confirmation and approval from you (through an SR), we will recreate the service in your POD with Essbase 5xx version. Here is the info you can put in the SR when you want to enable Hybrid mode in your EPBCS pod. You should also submit provide feedback and request the same. Then support can open a bug from this feedback & attach the bug to the SR. a. I <Your Name> authorize Oracle to enable Hybrid mode on my EPBCS environment <Service URL>. I know that the environment will be recreated and the application will be deleted, and I will have to either import the backup LCM snapshot that I have or recreate the application from scratch. b. Support can then open a bug from the provided feedback with the following information:          Subject: Enable Hybrid mode on My EPBCS environment                              Description: <Fills in the customer provided info in the SR> c. If you need this on more than one environment, provide feedback from each of the pods and open one SR per pod. d. All such requests (bugs) will be assigned to EPM Product Manager for Approval. * Note: For Planning and Budgeting applications, the Enable Hybrid option is not available. To enable it, you must first convert your application to Enterprise on the Application Overview page. (You need to be licensed for EPBCS to convert from PBCS to EPBCS.) After the conversion, the Enable Hybrid option will be displayed. 3. You can then import an LCM backup on the updated environment and test everything. 4. Next, go to the Application Overview page and select Enable Hybrid. Certain best practice validations will be done as part of this process. Based on the recommendations, you will need to fine tune the application. You can also take advantage of Hybrid BSO by redesigning the application – make members in sparse dimensions dynamic, remove intermediate rollups from rules, and so on. 5. If everything works fine and you would like to update your Production instance with Essbase 5xx version, you will need to take an LCM backup of the production application and download it. Please note that a successful cube refresh must be done before taking the LCM backup. 6. After we get confirmation and approval from you for recreating the service on your Production Instance (as mentioned in step 2), we will recreate the service with Essbase 5xx. 7. You can now import either a test LCM backup or a production LCM backup on the updated environment, and then open the app for end users. After this update, all monthly updates and enhancements will be available on your test and production environments SUMMARY Hybrid BSO provides multiple options for configuring/tuning applications Application size reduces significantly with Hybrid BSO because of dynamic sparse dimensions which has positive impact on performance & usability Making all sparse dimensions dynamic can be considered as an option for small size application A mixed approach with some sparse dimensions being store or some intermediate parents in sparse dimensions being store gives better performance for large size applications Hybrid BSO is definitely better than BSO but does NOT replace ASO for reporting purpose For very large-sized applications with large number of reporting dimensions and instantaneous aggregation/reporting requirements, Hybrid BSO- ASO with Smart Push & Aggregate Views in ASO can be leveraged EPBCS best practices framework monitors application health & provides advance warnings for taking corrective actions for ensuring Optimal Application Performance ===================================================================================================== References: Presentation - presented by Manish Daga Conversion steps Conversion considerations Using Hybrid Aggregation EPM Cloud Documentation

How can I use the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to create my LCM Snapshots for Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Cloud?

This article describes how a customer can download a snapshot from an EPM Cloud instance on an OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) instance, and then archive it to either an Object Store or OCI block storage. Downloading a Snapshot from an EPM Cloud Instance There are two ways (REST API and EPM Automate) to download a snapshot from an EPM Cloud instance on an OCI instance. REST API curl -u username:password serviceURL /interop/rest/11.1.2.3.600/applicationsnapshots/Artifact Snapshot/contents > snapshotFile Example: curl -u joe.smith@xyz.com:Su12!* https://planning-domain.pbcs.us2.oraclecloud.com/interop/rest/11.1.2.3.600/applicationsnapshots/Artifact Snapshot/contents > snapshot mv snapshot snapshot.zip For more information, refer to REST API documentation for downloading LCM snapshots. EPM Automate epmautomate downloadfile “Artifact Snapshot” mv “Artifact Snapshot.zip” snapshot.zip At the end of this step, you will have a snapshot file named snapshot.zip For more information, refer to EPM Automate documentation for downloading files. Archiving a Snapshot on an Object Store: 1. Create OCI Bucket for snapshots A Compartment is required to provide permissions and access to Object resources. In the OCI Console, create the Compartment with the related Namespace and a Bucket (if they do not already exist). The Object Storage namespace serves as a top-level container for all buckets and objects and allows you to control bucket naming within your tenancy. Examples: Namespace:         epmclouddev Bucket name:         lcm_backup   2. Upload to Object Store - two options. Option 1: Use Rest API to upload to Object Store Refer to the presentation for exact steps and examples You can upload and download to the Object Store by using a native REST API or Amazon S3 or SWIFT API. The Native REST API is recommended. OCI Upload Rights Object Store Upload/Download APIs Object Store Sample Code API reference Bash script Option 2: Use CLI for multi-part uploads to Object Store Refer to the presentation for exact steps and examples If the snapshot is large, you can use multi-part uploads via the CLI. Object Store CLI Using CLI to perform multi-part uploads 3. Verify uploaded snapshot You can verify the existence of the upload with the following GET command in the oci-curl program:  ./oci-curl.sh objectStoreURL get “/n/namespace/b/bucket/o/” > {"objects":[{"name":“snapshotName"}]} Example: ./oci-curl objectstorage.us-phoenix-1.oraclecloud.com get “/n/epmclouddev/b/lcm_backup/o/” Returns: > {"objects":[{"name":“snapshot}]}   Archiving a snapshot on OCI Block Storage Syntax: timestamp=`date +%m_%d_%Y_%I%M` mv  snapshot.zip snapshot_${timestamp}.zip For more information, refer to EPM Automate example of archiving a snapshot to local storage. ============================================================================================================= Refer to the links below for more information: Presentation REST API documentation for downloading LCM snapshots EPM Automate documentation for downloading files OCI Upload Rights Object Store Upload/Download APIs Object Store Sample Code API reference Bash script Object Store CLI Using CLI to perform multi-part uploads EPM Automate example of archiving a snapshot to local storage
