Oracle PeopleSoft Provides Additional Time for Micro Focus COBOL Migration

Mark Hoernemann
Platform Strategy Director

Due to the challenges customers are facing with the COVID-19 pandemic, Oracle is providing an additional 4 months of support for the Micro Focus Server Express and Net Express COBOL compilers for our customers.

Oracle is the exclusive provider of Micro Focus COBOL compilers for PeopleSoft applications.  With our certification of the new Visual COBOL compiler last year, Oracle had announced that the Server Express and Net Express would not be supported past December, 2020.  Given recent events, including the announcement of PeopleTools 8.56 critical patch support extension, Oracle will now support Micro Focus Server Express and Net Express compilers covered by Oracle support for PeopleSoft applications through April, 2021.

PeopleTools enabled the use of Visual COBOL with PeopleSoft applications with required minimum PeopleTools patches.  These minimums include PeopleTools 8.56.15 and 8.57.05.  PeopleTools 8.58 has migrated to Visual COBOL as the only certified Micro Focus compiler.  Note that there is no minimum PeopleTools 8.58 patch required for using the Visual COBOL compiler.  More valuable information is available in the Visual COBOL for PeopleSoft FAQ on My Oracle Support.

This extended period of support for Net Express and Server Express will provide more flexibility for converting to the new Visual COBOL compiler.  It will also allow customers to continue to purchase new or expansion licenses as needed for Micro Focus Visual COBOL, Server Express or Net Express compilers through April, 2021.
