Using PeopleSoft Base Compensation for Salary Adjustments

Customers have been wondering about our recommendation on how to perform an across the board salary reduction. Mass changes are typically performed using the Mass Update feature in PeopleSoft, however, in order to perform a mass change for salary reductions, you can use the Base Compensation Group Increase function.

Base Compensation Group Increase is a delivered method to process salary reductions. The process requires a number of setup and transactional steps, but our Base Compensation module is a part of our Core HR product and is available for every HCM customer to utilize. 

Depending on your environment, you may need to set up Action/Reason Codes, Group Definitions and Security, and Budget Data (including type and parameters). 

Once setup is complete, you can create, approve, and calculate the budget changes through PeopleSoft Base Compensation, then assign and load the budget group requests.

Oracle Support Services (OSS) has created Document 2661790.1 with complete setup instructions and process steps needed to perform a salary reduction.

Note: Review completed salary reductions closely.  Make sure that you do not take your hourly employees below minimum wage, or go below FLSA minimums for your salaried, non-exempt employees.
