The Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana (ELK) products have become important parts of PeopleSoft environments.  Although these are open source products, PeopleSoft customers should get them from us because they contain plug-ins and other features to support security and make them work more effectively in the PeopleSoft ecosystem. Oracle ships the ELK DPKs to make it easy to install these products with Peoplesoft.

There have been some questions from customers on how to keep ELK products updated. Review this support page for more information on using ELK products with PeopleSoft, including how to keep updated.

The key points are as follows:

ELK DPKs are…

  • released at the PeopleTools GA date and with every PeopleTools CPU patch.
  • each a full version of the Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana stack that has been customized for use with PeopleSoft environments.
  • only supported on x86-64 platforms running Linux or Microsoft Windows.  (For details on the specific operating system versions, see the PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58 information in My Oracle Support, Certifications.)
  • contain the Oracle Java JRE.

As with the JDK and JRE provided with the PeopleTools DPKs, the ELK DPK is updated to include the latest JRE CPU that is available at the time the ELK DPK is packaged.
To get updates for ELK:

  1. Follow the instructions in the installation guide to update the ELK DPK to a new revision that corresponds to the latest PeopleTools CPU patch. See PeopleSoft Deployment Packages for Elasticsearch Installation (PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58) on the Elasticsearch on PeopleTools 8.58 page of the Elastic support page.
  2. Use the Infrastructure DPK (PT-INFRA DPK) to get the latest JRE for a new ELK installation.

What is the Infrastructure DPK?

Oracle mandates CPU releases from all the products at the same time once a quarter, in mid-January, April, July, and October. PeopleTools DPKs and ELK DPKs released for a specific CPU will not contain the CPUs released at the same time for the infrastructure products. As a regular process, the CPUs for the infrastructure products are updated in the next PeopleTools patch DPK or ELK DPK.

Customers can update their environments to the latest CPU of the infrastructure components by manually downloading and applying them. In order to make this process easier, PeopleTools 8.58 released the Infrastructure DPK (PT-INFRA DPK) to use with new installations. In the future, the Infrastructure DPK may be used to ship critical updates for ELK in addition to JRE.

Go to the Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana on PeopleTools 8.58 tab, and expand the section Elasticsearch DPK Links, for information about using the PT-INFRA DPK.
