As more and more customers have paid closer attention to security patches of their applications and infrastructure components, we have heard loudly and clearly from the customer community that our PeopleTools Critical Patch Updates (CPUs) were at times significantly out of date.  It’s come up in individual customer conversations, conferences, and our Customer Advisory Board.  Having to apply a PeopleTools CPU patch, and then go out and find, download, and apply more patches was time-consuming and general pain.  The problem was that when we started a development cycle for a CPU patch, we were not able to include the latest security fixes for the components that became available on the same day at the PeopleTools CPU patch.

Andy D made the official request to change this on Idea Space back on March 6, 2017 – just as we were putting the final touches on PeopleTools 8.56 development:

Well, Andy... and everyone else that voted for the enhancement suggestion, “All middleware within PeopleTools CPU DPK patched to the latest CPU”, that Top-5 PeopleTools request is now a done deal!

With PeopleTools 8.58, Oracle is providing Infrastructure DPKs that deliver up-to-date CPU patches for PeopleTools Infrastructure.  Following each PeopleTools CPU patch (we’re talking just days here), the infrastructure  DPKs will be made available on MOS, and provide the latest CPU patches for the following:

  • WebLogic
  • Tuxedo
  • JDK
  • JRE
  • Oracle Database Client

The on-prem platforms are planned to be available with the PeopleTools 8.58.03 CPU patch in April.  When the patch is out, the “PT-INFRA DPK” will follow just days later, and be found on My Oracle Support on the Patches and Updates tab.

1)  “Product or Family (Advanced)

               2)  Product = PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools

               3)  Release = PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.58

The PT-INFRA DPK will be available for all OS platforms, and follow this naming convention:

Once obtained, the Infra DPKs are placed in the same directory as the PeopleTools or Application DPKs for a new installation.  Don’t worry, we’re exploring how to enable this for existing installations as well, but that’s for another time.

For those using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and PeopleSoft Cloud Manager, you will find Cloud Manager makes this easier for you as well.  The Infrastructure DPKs will be automatically downloaded for you when you subscribe to the PeopleTools 8.58 channel.

As you prepare for your PeopleTools 8.58 upgrade, put some thought into how the PT-INFRA DPKs will change your processes (I’m betting you’ll like it).  We’re excited to hear your feedback on the Infrastructure DPKs – be sure to let us know what you think, and keep those enhancement ideas coming.

Hopefully, I’ll see you at an upcoming PeopleSoft conference.  And, if you happen to see Andy...tell him THANKS.  ;-)
