Customers continue providing testimony on the number of customizations they have retired or avoided altogether using the frameworks and tools provided by PeopleSoft such as the Page and Field Configurator and event mapping. The Page and Field Configurator allows customers to change labels, hide fields, make fields display only or required and to apply defaults, all without a customization. At its core, the page and field configurator provides functional users an interface for implementing component level event mapping to meet their organization’s needs.
In 2018, we enhanced the tool to include fluid pages allowing you to create separate displays and behavior based on form factor (device size). In 2019, beginning with HCM Image 31, Financials Image 32 and Campus Solutions Image 14, you can configure the displays for secondary pages and modal windows using Page and Field Configurator. To do this, simply select Secondary Page from the dropdown to get a list of fields available for use.

We also extended the role-based criteria available on the User List tab. You can now define page displays and behaviors based on one or more roles and exclude individual users as exceptions.

For more universal changes, you can apply changes to all users with options to exclude one or more roles or users as exceptions.

The new options for roles and users can be applied to all sequences by selecting the Header Level option or they can be configured differently by sequence
For more complex components with multiple sequences, we added a status selection at the sequence level. The new sequence level status is applied in addition to the existing header level status selection.

Page displays and behavior can change significantly using the Page and Field Configurator. For this reason, you should test all configurations in a non-production environment first. Following testing, you can use Application Data Sets (ADS) to migrate your configuration changes from test to production. We provided the EOCC_CONFIGURATION data set for this purpose.

Through the Idea Space on My Oracle Support, we continue to receive suggestions for enhancements to the Page and Field Configurator. As evidenced through customer events and conferences held throughout the year, the Page and Field Configurator continues to be one of the most popular features that Oracle has released in some time. We are continuing to invest in the tool with plans to:
- Provide options for masking sensitive data in HCM, Financials and Campus Solutions
- Improve field selection capabilities
- Extend criteria to include fields selected by the user on the page
- Hide charts and other displays
- Default system variables for a field such as user login, date, and time
You should be on PeopleTools version 8.56.02 to use Page and Field Configurator on fluid components and some future enhancements will require PeopleTools 8.57 or higher. Be sure to watch for updates in HCM, Financials and Campus Solutions as we continue working to provide tools to reduce and isolate your customizations.
