New Feature: Configuration Specialist

Here comes another feature to help you with your efforts at configuration and isolating customizations:  The Configuration Specialist Home Page and Role.  This feature was suggested to us by our Customer Advisory Boards. The basic requirement statement was this:  Customers want their functional/technical subject matter experts to be able to take advantage of all the configuration tools without exposing the entire PeopleTools menus to those users.  They also wanted a convenient, single place where those users could access all the configuration tools; a one-stop-shop if you will.

Note that this is simply a conveniently delivered sample data Home Page. Customers can create their own Home Page and configure it by adding or removing tiles to features that they use or don't use.  Tiles can be added by users who have access to the underlying functionality associated and granted by the corresponding security. In most cases, your Configuration Specialist page will contain both PeopleTools features like Tile Wizard and Related Content Services, and Enterprise Components features like Page & Field Configurator and Forms and Approval Builder.

We've also delivered a sample Configuration Specialist Role. You can assign users to that role, providing access to the Home Page and the features on it. You can make the Home Page appear in the drop-down for any user with the assigned role of Configuration Specialist.

Note that although changes made with many of these tools are simple to make without coding or access to App Designer, they are still changes and must be managed as part of your change management and life cycle processes. In addition to deciding who has access to these features, you'll need to determine when (at what point in your life cycle) these types of changes can be introduced. You must also fully test and track such changes.

The Configuration Specialist Home Page is available in FSCM image 36, and is currently planned for HCM image 38. You can read more about Configuration Specialist tiles here
