The Chancellor in the Spring Budget session announced that with effect from 6 April 2024, the employee’s national insurance contributions rate would be reduced from 10% to 8% for earnings above the primary threshold and below the upper earnings threshold. This is in addition to the 2% cut announced in the Autumn Statement that was effective from 6 January 2024. However, the employer’s national insurance contributions rate remains unchanged at 13.8%.
