Starting with HCM Image 55, PeopleSoft will begin releasing PeopleSoft Update Images on containers. The new container-based Images will start using new containers images that has all software pre-installed. This means you will spend less time building your PeopleSoft Image environments. Container images are easier to download – 1 file per container image, easier to start – 1 command for all the containers, and faster to deploy than the VirtualBox or NativeOS DPKs. A PeopleSoft Update Image will be consist of 3 containers – a database container, a midtier container, and an Insights container. For customers, Podman on Linux or Podman Desktop on Windows will be the best way to run the new PeopleSoft Update Image containers. This means customers who want to run PeopleSoft Update Images on their laptops or workstations can use Podman Desktop to quickly deploy the latest release.
Going forward, the container platform will be our preferred way to deploy PeopleSoft Update Images. Container deployments reduce the amount of installation work, remove many of the extra setup steps, and give customers a cleaner path from download to a running image. We will be ending support for the VirtualBox DPK in the near future and encourage customers who use the VirtualBox DPK to try the upcoming PeopleSoft Update Image containers.
