Oracle LiveLabs allows you to explore a wide variety of labs and technical workshops for Oracle’s tools and technologies running in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This content aims to enable your learning and development of a technical skill with more efficiency that you can organically find through product and service interaction. Each LiveLab has its own prerequisites that you need to follow to either reserve a self-contained environment to run the workshop or use your own tenancy following the steps outlined in the workshop.

Cloud customers are responsible for securing their workloads, being familiar with the available security solutions and knowing how to properly utilize them to secure your workloads running within OCI become critical. We’re happy to announce our latest additions to LiveLabs security workshops.

Deploy OCI Network Firewall and secure your workloads on OCI

OCI Network Firewall is a cloud native, managed firewall service that is built using Palo Alto Networks’ next-generation firewall technology. It offers machine learning (ML)-powered firewall capabilities to protect your OCI workloads and is easy to consume on OCI. As an OCI native firewall-as-a-service offering, OCI Network Firewall enables you to take advantage of the firewall features without the need to configure and manage other security infrastructure.

The OCI Network Firewall instance is highly scalable with built-in high availability and can be created in a virtual cloud network (VCN) and subnet of your choice. The firewall inspects every request including transport layer security (TLS) encrypted traffic that goes through it and enforces an action such as allow, reject, drop, intrusion detection, or prevention based on the user configured firewall policy rules.

To learn more, check out the announcement blog of the OCI Network Firewall service.

This workshop gives hands-on experience how you can use OCI Network Firewall solution within OCI to secure your workloads and has the following outline:

  • Provision the infrastructure using Oracle Resource Manager and Terraform

  • Provision and configure the infrastructure manually

  • Learn to deploy OCI Network Firewall

  • Configure OCI Network Firewall to support different security features

  • Validate and inspect the traffic through the OCI Network Firewall

  • Destroy the infrastructure using Oracle Resource Manager or manually
