Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5.0.23 download available on My Oracle Support

If you have been following the EM releases for a while, you are familiar with Release Updates (RUs). RUs are the agile way to roll out new EM features and bug fixes, you don’t have to wait for a major release. RUs are versioned with a trailing digit indicating the RU version. Note that RUs are cumulative, which means that the most recent RU includes functionality from all previous release updates. Our general recommendation is to apply the most current RU as soon as possible.

Download the latest RU from My Oracle Support:  see the EM 13.5 list of RUs, including plug-ins, in Doc ID 2760230.2 and a complete list of multiple versions of RUs and PSUs in Doc ID 1605609.1

Key updates in Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5 RU23

This Release Update is a functionality-rich release that brings Enterprise Manager to whole new level!  From an extensive list of capabilities for managing complex Engineered Systems environments to seamless integration with the O&M OCI services, the highlights of Enterprise Manager 13.5 RU23 are as follows:

New Management Packs for Advanced Management and Monitoring of Engineered Systems

To help address the key challenges in managing large distributed systems such as the Oracle Engineered Systems, RU23 introduces the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Exadata Management Pack and Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance (ZDLRA) Management Pack. These packs offer a comprehensive solution to optimize performance of your databases, maximize your Exadata capacity, and automate critical database backup operations.

The key features of the Exadata Management pack include:

  • At scale Exadata infrastructure patching using Fleet Maintenance
  • CPU allocation analysis with the Database Impact Advisor
  • I/O load capacity evaluation with  Exadata I/O Resource Management (IORM) Advisor
  • Advanced, holistic IOPS allocations visualization for optimal Exascale performance monitoring

The key features of the ZDLRA pack include:

  • Automated Database Fleet Backup Management for Recovery Appliance
  • Database Fleet Advanced Backup Configuration for ZDLRA Using EM CLI
  • Recovery Appliance Protected Database Fleet Archival Backup Scheduling

Exascale Monitoring

The new Exascale target home page provides monitoring capabilities such as availability and health monitoring, as well as storage and IOPS utilization monitoring, both aggregated and distributed by serviced clients.

Enterprise Manager Cloud Extension

Now you can seamlessly take advantage of the OCI Ops Insights service’s rich functionality directly in the Enterprise Manager interface. The new Enterprise Manager Cloud Extension enables you to view SQL performance insights, database capacity planning, and forecasting information in the context of a database, right on the Database Resource page in Enterprise Manager.

Gold Images migration with Fleet Maintenance

You can now migrate Fleet Maintenance Gold Images between Enterprise Manager deployments using Fleet Maintenance.  You can deploy updates, software images and their meta data across separate Enterprise Manager installations.

Database Provisioning Failure Group disks

When provisioning a new Grid Infrastructure or Single Instance High Availability databases, you can now specify the Failure Group disks during the initial ASM diskgroup setup.

New CIS 1.2.0 Compliance Standards for Oracle Database 19c

The latest CIS Compliance 1.2.0 standards for Oracle Database 19c are now available. As always, these standards are available through Self Update and Configuration and Compliance standard options.

Support for ADBs configured using the ECPU model

ECPU’s, the standard billing metric for Autonomous Database, are based on the number of cores per hour elastically allocated from a pool of compute and storage servers. Enterprise Manager is now certified to support Autonomous Databases that are configured using the ECPU compute model.

Monitoring: Support for Including/Excluding indirect members in a Dynamic Group

As aggregate targets are added to a dynamic group, all members of the aggregate target are, by default, also added to the group. Using the Indirect Members drop-down menu, you now have the option to include or exclude any indirect member targets as part of the dynamic group.

Enhancements to REST APIs

The following enhancements and additions are now available in the Enterprise Manager REST API:

  • Fleet Maintenance Patching APIs updates to support Exadata Patching, part of the new Exadata Management Pack
  • New Fleet Create Archival Backup APIs to create archival backups for all protected databases in a protection policy, part of the new ZDLRA Management Pack
  • Support for configuring and scheduling backups for a fleet of databases, part of the new ZDLRA Management Pack

Enhancements to EM CLI

  • The configureBackupToRA verb now supports the database initialization parameter wallet_root which specifies the location of a root directory tree containing sub-directories for all component wallets used by the database.
  • The configureBackupToRA verb now also supports advanced Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) backup configurations using Data Guard databases and backup and recovery continuity options. This option requires that the ZDLRA pack is enabled on the Recovery Appliance.
