There is a community of HeatWave users in Japan – HeatWavejp. As we announced in our last blog post, their ninth meetup was held on August 28, with a focus on HeatWave GenAI and HeatWave AutoML.

Since this last HeatWavejp meetup was a huge success, we would like to report on its progress and share the information that was presented at the meetup.

HeatWave GenAI received the most attention.  They tried it in Japanese Nihongo, although it does not currently support Japanese Nihongo yet; thus, they used translated weather information in English.  They imported the latest weather information into HeatWave RAG and asked about the news on Typhoon No.10 in 2024 in Japanese Nihongo as shown below.

Regarding this query within HeatWave RAG, the spokesperson, Mr. Narita from SmartStyle Corporation, evaluated that the quality of the text extracted by HeatWave GenAI was relatively at its expected level.

On the HeatWave AutoML side, engineers at NTT Data Intellilink Corporation and SmartStyle Corporation talked about their first experience with AutoML from a beginner’s perspective using sample data from Iris and Titanic.

Then,  Mr. Takahashi from SmartStyle created and demonstrated a no-code movie recommendation application that  runs with Oracle APEX and HeatWave AutoML trained with MovieLens 100K Dataset, consisting of 1,000 user ratings for 1,700 movies.

They made a prediction from the original dataset and then trained twice with additional ratings of 15 movies to evaluate whether changes in recommendation orders might occur.

On this day, 80 participants attended the meeting, including online, and the meetup lasted 80 minutes. The content was very rich, meaningful and interesting.

Really look forward to the next meetup on Oct 17,  there will be reports from Oracle CloudWorld 2024 & lightening HeatWave talks!
