Garden State User Group Meetup with MySQL
On October 8, in cooperation with the Garden State Java Users Group, we consulted with Scott Stroz, a MySQL Developer Advocate, on the topic of “Using MySQL Document Store with Java”.
Due to an already scheduled Scott’s presentation at an International JavaScript conference, the presentation was done remotely. According to the organizers, 12 people attended the meeting in person and another 7 attended online. Despite the lower number of attendees, there were quite a few questions at the end of the presentation, which showed that there is interest in the Document Store. We would like to thank the organizers and participants for a great time spent together, interest in MySQL technology and we look forward to the next meeting at the Garden State Java User Group.
Philly JUG
On the 9th of October another meetup with Scott Sroz was organized on the same topic as the day before, but this time with the Philly Java User Group.
Despite the precise planning of the event, we unfortunately hit the day of a professional baseball playoff game involving a team from Philadelphia. This was due to the smaller number of people physically present at the presentation on Using MySQL Document Store with Java. However, despite the smaller number of attendees, there again seemed to be quite a bit of interest in the MySQL Document Store. In view of this interest, we would like to recommend talks that would cover pure MySQL in addition to MySQL with Java for the next similar meeting with Philly JUG.
HeatWave Tips Lightning Talks and OCW 2024 Field Report
Let us share with you a recap report of HeatWavejp’s meetup – HeatWave User community meeting. As announced in one of our last blog post, their tenth meetup was held on October 17, and a focused on OCW 2024 Field Report and Lightning Talks by MySQL engineers.
As a key member of the group, Mr. Naito of SmartStyle began with his travel recollection of OCW 2024. He was impressed by our Open MultiCloud strategy and the new HeatWave features on AWS. His talk was so passionate as he was encouraged by Edward Screven’s powerful messages about HeatWave GenAI.

Lightning Talks were very practical for HeatWave beginners. MySQL engineers shared first experiences with the new features as follows:
• Trial of Always Free HeatWave
• Monitoring HeatWave using Database Management
• HeatWave on AWS and Private Link
• How inbound replication works at failover situation with HeatWave on AWS Private Link
• HeatWave GenAI and Japanese language
The next meetup is planned for December, it will be called “Use Case Festival” and will be held in Osaka. This will be the first time that HeatWaveJP meeting will be held outside of Tokyo. We look forward to meeting HeatWave fans in the western part of Japan!
