In 2023 the All Things Open conference was held as an in person event and MySQL Community together with MySQL and Product teams attended as Bronze sponsor with a booth in the expo area and a speaking slots as announced before.

The organizers of the conference announced that approximately 3,800 participants took part out of a total of 4,300 registered, which is a very good number! And if we add to this the great enthusiasm of the participants – not only in the sessions, but also in the corridor, at the booth, during lunch – it is more or less clear that All Things Open definitely did not disappoint this year.

The participants of the conference could find us not only at the MySQL booth, but also in the following technical presentations:

  • “Using MySQL Document Store with Node.js” by Scott Stroz, the MySQL Developer Advocate on October 17, @3:45 pm-4:30 pm in Database track.
Despite the fact that the session was scheduled for the last day, in the last time slot and in a room which was quite outside the main part, the participation was very decent. During the session the group seemed very engaged and asked good questions. A few people even stayed afterwards to ask more questions, which was very heartwarming.
  • “Write Shell Scripts Using JavaScript and zx”, by John Wargo, the Principal Product Manager from Oracle Enterprise Application group on the same day and time as Scott’s session above.
While John’s session was at the very end of the conference as well, he had a full house and lots of engagement with the audience. John was even able to give away a copy of his latest book to one lucky audience member. While his topic did not cover a big open source product, he was able to show the audience two tools to simplify node.js modules spawning external processes.

Meanwhile, we were busy at our stand, many people stopped by with questions about MySQL HeatWave, where the main interest was about open source version of HeatWave.

It was very nice to meet all the people during All Things Open physically again and have a chance to run multiple technical discussions and debate also at our booth.
