What are we announcing?

Oracle Autonomous Database Serverless is now certified with Gold Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) tier capabilities across availability domains (cross-AD) supporting a local standby database, meaning that customers can quickly deploy databases using Autonomous Database Serverless that can achieve an Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of under two minutes with near-zero data loss.

Why is this important?

Downtime and data loss can be incredibly disruptive and costly to the modern business, with mission-critical applications of their digital presence interfacing with customers, partners, and running core business functions. The Oracle Database is well known for its performance, reliability, and scalability. At Oracle, we constantly strive to bring our customers more availability, data protection, and overall resiliency. This is particularly true in the Autonomous Database, where we automatically deploy and configure much of our Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) solution without manually configuring resources.

Autonomous Database Serverless provides the simplest and most automated solution for Oracle Database. With the goal of optimized high availability and data protection in mind, Autonomous Database Serverless can now deliver on Oracle MAA Gold tier recovery point and recovery time objectives (RPO and RTO). Using Autonomous Data Guard allows one or more standby databases to be deployed and configured with just a few simple clicks. This disaster recovery configuration will then be maintained by OCI infrastructure adhering to optimized MAA best practices to ensure the highest availability and resiliency on Exadata Database Infrastructure.

What is Gold MAA?

Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) provides reference architectures designed to align with your application’s RTO and RPO goals. Minimum downtime and data loss requirements often decrease as an application becomes more critical to the business. With the Gold MAA tier, the goal is to align with a 99.995% uptime SLA with zero or near-zero data loss, meaning there is very little room for downtime from a planned maintenance perspective and unexpected outages. This level of resiliency can protect environments in the case of a disaster from both a local and regional perspective. It is important to remember that it is not just the Oracle technology that makes up Oracle Gold MAA but also the underlying configuration and operational best practices built into our OCI automated operational infrastructure, which is at the core of the Autonomous Database.
