The entire Oracle MAA team–product management and development–joins the Carpenter family’s grief over the loss of Larry.
He was a great friend, colleague, mentor, and example to many of us.

Larry joined Oracle in 1994 after already a nearly 20-year career in IT. In his early years at Oracle, he was part of the staff working on Mission-Critical Databases. He played a key role in developing and expanding Oracle Data Guard from its inception in 2001. Then, he became the Data Guard Product Manager in 2004. Over the years, until retirement in 2018, Larry made Data Guard one of the most popular and successful products in the Oracle Database ecosystem. Throughout the Oracle user community, he was affectionately called “Mr. Data Guard.”

However, what made Larry unique to each of us was not his professional success but his personality, charisma, likability, and calling to help others. Not only did these qualities make him beloved by all, but they also helped us grow humanly and professionally. The countless messages of remembrance that have been posted on social media in the last few hours are testimony to the imprint he left on the Oracle community, as well as in the hearts of those who were close to him.

Godspeed, Larry.
