The Oracle Linux and Virtualization team is pleased to announce that the Leapp utility can now be used to upgrade Oracle Linux systems that are being managed with the Oracle OS Management Hub service and the first-generation OS Management Service. Leapp is a Linux utility for upgrading operating systems in-place. It can be used to upgrade Oracle Linux systems on-premises and in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), saving you time and easing your administrative burden.
With the Premier Support lifecycle of Oracle Linux 7 ending on December 31, 2024, many customers are planning to upgrade to Oracle Linux 8. Leapp can be used to upgrade from Oracle Linux 7 to Oracle Linux 8 or from Oracle Linux 8 to Oracle Linux 9. One great example of where Leapp could be beneficial is Oracle Linux systems running Oracle Database 19c. These database systems, either on-premises or in OCI, can receive a major OS upgrade without reinstalling the OS or the database.
Oracle OS Management Hub, our next-generation operating system management service, manages Oracle Linux systems on-premises, and in OCI, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services. It helps your systems stay updated and reliable while reducing your administration workload. OS Management Hub is built on OCI’s highly reliable and scalable infrastructure. Oracle experts take care of your service infrastructure, freeing you to manage and administer your systems. Note that OS Management Service will reach end of life on April 23, 2025, therefore we highly recommend that current users migrate to OS Management Hub as soon as possible.
