Friday Spotlight: Oracle Linux and MySQL TPC-C Optimizations Whitepaper

Happy Friday Oracle Linux fans, this week our spotlight is a new whitepaper that is co- authored by Rick Stehno of Seagate and Avi Miller of Oracle. This paper gives tips to optimize your Oracle Linux, MySQL and the PCIe card which increases the performance of your environment with just few steps:

Oracle Linux and MySQL TPC-C Optimizations When Implementing the Sun Flash Accelerator F80 PCIe Card

Oracle Linux with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) was chosen for this study because of its upstream support for the latest hardware relevant to modern data center operations. In addition, MySQL database workloads benefit from the platform’s deep integration with the solution stack, optimizations resulting from industry collaborations and enhancements in the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel.

Oracle Linux with the Unbreakable Enteprise Kernel includes extensive performance and scalability improvements to the process scheduler, memory management, file systems, and the networking stack. It was tuned to perform better and faster on leading-edge x86 configurations that feature many CPU cores and large amounts of main memory, and optimized libraries and system calls help to improve performance for MySQL queries. Because of these optimizations and pervasive testing that occurs within Oracle, Oracle Linux is able to address large transaction capacities and scale well as the number of database users or the number of databases increases. This document will present tuning and processes that can be applied to increase TPC-C performance when using the Sun Flash Accelerator F80 PCIe Card.

By following the simple tuning tips outlined in this paper, a successful implementation of the Sun Flash Accelerator F80 PCIe Card with optimal performance can occur in most environments.

Secure-24 Showcases Datacenter Savings at Oracle OpenWorld 2014

Secure-24 showcases how customers can reduce OPEX and CAPEX and take away IT headaches at Oracle OpenWorld.

Secure-24 is an Oracle Gold Partner, providing hosting services for Oracle Enterprise    Performance Management (EPM) solutions such as Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JD  Edwards, and Hyperion on Oracle Linux and Oracle VM in their datacenters.

As your organization grows, so does your enterprise systems requirements – growing in complexity, in manageability and cost. In order to reduce cost, whilst increasing reliability, many Oracle customers are choosing to move their infrastructure to Oracle Linux. If you are in such a situation, please come listen to Secure-24’s VP of Product Management, Nick Llitch at the Scene and Be Heard Theatre (#313), where he will share insights as to the Reasons, Risks and Rewards of moving to Oracle Linux, through “A CIO’s Guide to Migrating from UNIX to Oracle Linux”.

Secure-24 will also be exhibiting at the Oracle Linux and Virtualization Showcase, with Oracle OpenStack, at OpenWorld, please drop by to discuss your hosting needs.

In addition, Secure-24’s Sean Donaldson, Chief Technology Officer, will be sharing some insights and Best Practices for Virtual Compute Appliance, alongside other technologists, on Wednesday 10/1 at the Intercontinental – Grand Ballroom B.

Scene & Be Heard Theatre session: A CIO’s Guide to Migrating from UNIX to Oracle Linux: Reasons, Risks, RewardsMonday, Sep 29, 12:00 - 12:20 PM at Moscone South, booth #313, Oracle Linux and Virtualization Showcase with OpenStack located at Moscone South, booth #611, Secure-24 Kiosk is located at SLX-012, the exhibition hall is open from September 29th to October 1st

Linux Filesystem, Storage and Memory Summit

Chris Mason, Chuck Lever, Martin Petersen and Dan Magenheimer from the Oracle Linux engineering team attended the Linux Filesystem, Storage, and Memory Management Summit in San Francisco earlier this month.

Oracle is actively involved in several of the projects under discussion there and they participated in discussions involving the most pressing challenges facing Linux-based storage today. Topics ranged from getting Linux developers more involved in the hard drive industry to handling low-end flash cards to moving implementations of distributed and cluster file systems forward on Linux.

For a more detailed report on the summit, see the excellent coverage on LWN:
