Oracle announces developer preview releases of Oracle Linux 9 Update 2 and Oracle Linux 8 Update 8 for the 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86_64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) platforms.

What’s New

These Oracle Linux developer preview releases include enhanced development tools, an improved web management console, and updated tools for microservices development.

  • New web-server option with Nginx 1.22, able to leverage OpenSSL 3.0
  • Python 3.11, with enhanced performance
  • Co-Pilot 5.3.7 release, which allows performance metrics to be centrally logged for many hosts
  • Compiler toolset: GCC 12, LLVM 15, Rust 1.66, and Go 1.19

The latest Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) and Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK) releases are also included.

Software Access and Download

Oracle Linux developer preview content is distributed through the following Yum repositories:

  • Base OS Developer – Developer preview of BaseOS Packages
  • AppStream Developer – Developer preview of Oracle Linux Application Stream Packages
  • CodeReady Builder Developer – Developer preview of Oracle Linux CodeReady Builder Packages
  • UEK Release 7 – UEK Release 7 for Oracle Linux

The BaseOS repository includes the core set of RPM packages that are needed to run Oracle Linux. The AppStream repository contains modules, which are sets of RPMs that can or must be installed together and include packages that provide additional support for a variety of workloads, such as user space applications, runtime languages, and databases. The developer preview release should be deployed and tested as a bundle as shipped on the Oracle-provided installation image, as downgrading kernel packages is not supported.
