Oracle is pleased to announce the availability of Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 7 Update 3 (UEK R7U3) for Oracle Linux. This latest release brings advancements for secure remote communications, features driver updates from key partners including NVIDIA, Broadcom, Marvell, Microchip, and Microsoft, and includes various critical security improvements and bug fixes from the upstream community. Oracle Linux with UEK delivers mission-critical performance and security optimizations, tailored to run customers’ most data- and compute-intensive workloads running across distributed environments—including Oracle Database, Oracle Exadata, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure—and Oracle’s business operations.
UEK R7U3 is developed, built, tested, and supported on the 64-bit Intel and AMD (x86-64) and 64-bit Arm (aarch64) architectures. It is based on the mainline Linux kernel version 5.15.0 and is identified by the release number ending in -300 (5.15.0-300).
What’s new in UEK Release 7 Update 3
The following section highlights select features, enhancements, and changes introduced in this release. For more detailed information, please refer to the UEK R7U3 Release Notes.
TLS Encrypted Connections for NFS
RPC-With-TLS, enabled in the Linux NFS server and client, provides a standards-based peer authentication mechanism over an encrypted connection using TLS. It brings transparent, end-to-end, in-transit encryption for NFS, helping to protect against data theft during transmission over the network.
Both the server and client systems must run UEK R7U3 or later, or a kernel and user space client that supports RFC 9289, to use this functionality. RPC-With-TLS is contributed upstream by Oracle and is described in RFC 9289.
Updated Drivers
In close cooperation with leading hardware and storage vendors, Oracle has updated several device drivers and worked with them to align these drivers with the code available in upstream kernel versions. The table below shows updated drivers in UEK R7U3 and their alignment with code available in upstream kernel versions.
| Updated Driver | Aligned Kernel Version |
|---|---|
| NVIDIA 5th-Generation Network Adapters (NVIDIA ConnectX series) Core Driver | 6.7 |
| Broadcom Emulex Fibre Channel HBA Driver | 6.9 |
| Broadcom MegaRAID SAS Driver | 6.9 |
| Broadcom BCM573xx Network Driver | 6.8 |
| Marvell QLogic Fibre Channel HBA Driver | 6.10 |
| Microchip Smart Family Controller Driver | 6.9 |
| Microsoft Azure Network Adapter | 6.10 |
| Broadcom (formerly LSI) MPT Fusion SAS 3.0 Device Driver | 6.9 |
| Broadcom MPI3 Storage Controller Device Driver | 6.10 |
