It’s been a busy fall for the JD Edwards team. We announced Release 23, the annual update for EnterpriseOne 9.2. We’ve talked to our customers about what Release 23’s capabilities, features and innovation means for their businesses. Here’s a quick roundup of the essentials, aligned with our key focus areas: Applications, Digital Platform and System Administration.
Applications
Last October, when we announced Release 22, it highlighted the investment that JD Edwards has been making in Digital ERP. This year, we continue to build on the momentum from Release 22. A lot of that momentum came from our customers: over 90% of the enhancements in Release 23 have been driven by customer request. In terms of applications, we are excited about how these enhancements will optimize your business processes:
- A simplified user experience with Employee Organization Chart, which allows managers to quickly review their organization to identify open positions and focus on hiring critical positions to meet business needs.
- Improved B2B processing, which allows you to retire customizations, with a real-time event filter for orders and enhanced outbound EDI process for Purchase Receipts.
Digital Platform
The JD Edwards digital platform has been a key area of innovation and will continue to drive our customer’s digital transformation. Automation is a crucial step in any transformation journey and here’s how Release 23 will further your business’ ability to automate JD Edwards processes:
- Orchestrator has been enhanced to allow business data in the EnterpriseOne database to be offered securely to external systems such as Cloud services, visualization tools, or mobile applications as a REST API.
- With the new Call an Orchestration from a Workflow feature, workflow processes can now inherit all the automation power of orchestrations, while still maintaining their ability to suspend processing to wait for human activities, such as approvals.
- With the enhanced capabilities of Logic Extensions, users can leverage built-in data analytics capabilities within the EnterpriseOne system, and accomplish a level of data analysis and manipulation without programming skills.
System Administration
JD Edwards has always had a low total cost of ownership and we have further lowered the TCO with Release 23 and these features:
- The new Password Reset Self-Service empowers users to reset their password without the assistance of a system administrator or the help desk, freeing up administrators to focus on strategic projects.
- The enhanced Update Manager can now apply updates via the JD Edwards web client, increasing flexibility for system administrators and trims the overall patch lifecycle time to production.
- The Centralized Configurations for EnterpriseOne (HTML) Servers feature allows you to manage the configuration settings of your HTML servers from a single location, without the need to navigate multiple server instances.
What’s on the Horizon?
We want to expand the number of business processes we support by staying open to change and continuously enriching our feature functionalities. As we continue to enrich Release 23 over the next year, here’s what we’ve set our sights on:
- We want to explore how we can help you capture the next wave of innovation around intelligence. This covers a broad area – from new Cloud based services and applications that Oracle is delivering with built in AI/ML capabilities for better insights and predictions, to the area of Enterprise Automation that can help you identify and eliminate bottlenecks in your business processes, to Autonomous Systems that can put an end to the traditional patching cycle and empower your IT staff to find new ways to add value back to the business.
- We want to evolve the way in which users consume JD Edwards data and interact with EnterpriseOne by leveraging visualizations such charts, graphs, calendars, diagrams, and maps to simplify the user experience and make things more intuitive.
- We will continue our ongoing investments in Orchestrator, Workflow Modeler, Notifications, and Logic Extensions as they play a key role in enabling business process automation and broadening the scope of what our customers can measure, monitor, and improve.
- Finally, we want you to be able to catch the next wave of technological innovation and modernize your JD Edwards solution by providing a standards-based integration platform that is scalable, reliable, and secure.
