Introduction
In the dynamic landscape of digital transformation, Oracle Integration (OIC) has emerged as a robust platform, streamlining the integrations of diverse applications, services, and data across enterprises. One of the pivotal components enhancing OIC’s capabilities is the Rapid Adapter Builder (RAB), which empowers users to build their own adapters rapidly. In this blog, we’ll delve into the details of what is RAB, its benefits, and who can use RAB.

What’s Rapid Adapter Builder?
The Rapid Adapter Builder transforms the building of adapters in Oracle Integration (OIC). The Rapid Adapter Builder framework allows users to build adapters effortlessly against third-party applications that expose REST APIs, without having to develop complex code, through use of the Visual Studio code extension.
The Rapid Adapter Builder simplifies custom adapter development in Oracle integration and facilitates incremental development of adapters, including the syntactic and semantic validation of the code developed.
Oracle Integration includes an ever-growing library of application-specific adapters that you can readily use for your integration scenarios. However, when an Oracle-provided adapter is not available for your purposes, you can build your own adapter using the Rapid Adapter Builder platform. This platform provides all the necessary infrastructure to build adapters for Oracle Integration. An adapter built using the Rapid Adapter Builder platform can offer the same capabilities as an Oracle-provided adapter. You can implement similar behavior to those available in the existing adapters in Oracle Integration.
Why Rapid Adapter Builder?
The Rapid Adapter Builder provides the following capabilities:
- Enables customers/partners with minimal technical knowledge to build adapters without much coding.
- Builds adapters rapidly, ensuring a seamless experience to develop and publish the adapter.
- Opens up the opportunity to build the adapters by customer, partner, or independent software vendor (ISVs).
- Reduces the dependency on only Oracle to develop the adapters.
- Provides a comprehensive partnership program for partners to monetize their adapters.
Who Can Build Adapters?
Let’s explore the diverse user base (adapter producers) that contributes to the thriving ecosystem of Oracle Integration (OIC), with a focus on the Rapid Adapter Builder (RAB).
-
SaaS vendors can now enable their customers to use the OIC platform for integrating their applications with Oracle SaaS or third-party ecosystems by delivering native adapters.
- ISVs can deliver adapters to their customers and provide out-of-the-box connectivity with OIC.
- Customers can develop an adapter for their in-house application and standardize their developed integrations.
- Partners can create and host adapters in the OIC Integration Store for customer-specific use or wider use, and monetize.

Quick Steps to Build an Adapter Using the Rapid Adapter Builder
To build an adapter using RAB, start by collecting either the Postman Collection for APIs or Open API document from the target application. Using the Visual Studio Code extension of RAB, the Postman Collection/Open API can be converted into an Adapter Definition Document (ADD), which can be modified as per customer needs and published to the OIC Integration store as an adapter. You can also perform incremental development updates on the adapter as per new requirements.

Conclusion
The Rapid Adapter Builder (RAB) in Oracle Integration emerges as a transformative force, simplifying adapter development and deployment. With distinct efficiencies in technology and first-class adapters, RAB facilitates seamless integration across diverse user scenarios. The framework not only streamlines development, but also opens avenues for monetization, emphasizing its pivotal role in driving innovation within the OIC landscape.
