Business Challenges
It’s no secret that today in the business world there is little room for error, whether that be a human mistake, or a database failure. Considering this immense pressure, it has never been more critical for companies to prioritize the security and efficiency of their IT environments.
When the Finnish city of Turku’s systems suffered from an incident that took five days to recover from, it was a wake-up call.
Situated on Finland’s southwestern coast, and the country’s former capital, Turku is home to more than 200,000 citizens.
The city’s existing mission-critical decision-making system had limited availability, meaning the access to, and use of, its information was not always fast and reliable. To provide an enhanced service that could better meet operational requirements, Turku needed to improve its infrastructure.
Why Turku chose Oracle
The local government needed a solution that could mitigate risks, like database crashes, to prevent any severe business disruptions, as well as reduce manual errors, which can increase costs and limit productivity.
With its innovative features, Oracle Autonomous Database was the natural choice for Turku. The organization’s positive previous experiences with Oracle helped to influence the decision, as it was keen to continue with Oracle Consulting.
Results
Oracle Cloud Lift Services kickstarted the project with a pilot and Proof of Concept before Oracle Consulting was engaged to begin the implementation.
The Oracle team delivered a database and application platform hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), providing Turku’s system with higher availability, making it faster and more reliable. Not only this, but a high-end, cross-region disaster recovery protection has facilitated a stable operational environment and extra security in the case of any issues.
In parallel, Turku now has capabilities for improved automation to minimize the threat of accidents, therefore increasing the efficiency and accuracy of its data management.
Without the worry of another extended downtime, Turku employees are empowered to focus on their day job: providing the best possible service to citizens.
