To give you a single place to keep up with Exadata technical news, we’ll post Exadata System Software releases here on blogs.oracle.com/exadata as soon as they are available.

This post details the 22.1.0.0.0 release.

Exadata System Software Release 22.1.0.0.0 is now generally available.

This release follows Exadata System Software Release 21.2 and provides a significant enhancement to Exadata Database Machine and fleet monitoring capabilities, along with optimizations to planned outages of the Exadata machine.

The focus on manageability with the Exadata 21.2 release last year resonated with customers still recovering from what can be considered a challenging few years. Being able to manage increasing workloads with limited resources has put pressure on all areas of IT. With this in mind, Exadata Development has once again focused on the manageability aspects of Exadata in Software version 22.1.

New Exadata systems will ship with Exadata System Software 22.1 in the coming weeks. Customers upgrading from previous software releases can refer to My Oracle Support Note 888828.1, which provides the minimum set of Grid Infrastructure and Database Software versions and patches needed to update to Exadata System Software Release 22.1.

Exadata Real-Time Insight

An exciting new ability to monitor Exadata systems in real-time is now available with Exadata System Software 22.1. Exadata Real-Time Insight provides the infrastructure to automatically stream up-to-the-second metrics from all servers in the Exadata fleet. This information can then easily and quickly be consumed in customizable monitoring dashboards for real-time analysis and problem-solving.

Oracle VM Management Domain Upgrade to Oracle Linux 7

Oracle Exadata Development prides itself on providing extensive investment protection for our customers. By allowing our customers to extend the life of older generation Exadata Database machines, valuable human and technology resources can be focused on enhancing core business functionality rather than worrying about software product lifecycles. Exadata Software 22.1 includes an upgrade to Oracle Linux 7 for the Oracle VM Server management domain (dom0).

As part of the upgrade, additional stability and security improvements have been integrated, all while being transparent to the user domains (domU).

Additional Management Features

Other additional features of Exadata Software 22.1 include:

  • Faster Upgrades – Exadata Software 22.1 continues the work done in previous software releases. This is achieved by optimizing the order of operations, running checks in parallel and asynchronously where appropriate, pre-staging software and firmware, and reducing system reboots. In some cases, the upgrade duration is half of comparable previous upgrades.
