In Part 1 of this commemoration of the first four years of EBS on OCI, we provided a look at how the EBS journey to Oracle Cloud got started, and the steady progress that has taken us to where we are today.
This second part builds on these foundations to share some real-life customer experiences that should prove useful as you embark on your own endeavours.
Here are some quotes (with supporting information) from a selection of customers about their impressive achievements running an EBS workload on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
"Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was undeniably the clear choice. There is no better solution for databases than Exadata, and Oracle is the only cloud that offers it."
— Sanjay Date, Senior Program Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure Group, 7-Eleven
In less than sixteen weeks, 7-Eleven created a custom DR environment in the cloud and successfully tested the failover of its applications and database to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure — a project record for them. Additionally, the team saw immediate performance benefits on failover. As a test, they logged into EBS and updated an address that caused a Data Relationship Management record to change — an action that used to take about ten minutes to complete on-premises. With OCI, the change was completed in about 20 seconds — a very impressive 30 times faster.
"By moving on-premises applications including Oracle E-Business Suite to Oracle Cloud, we upgraded our ERP system and cut hardware costs, but also achieved the long-time goal of having a true disaster recovery installation based on the latest Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
We picked Oracle over similar offers to increase our visibility into the vendor’s long-term licensing policy for those applications that we run on Oracle IaaS. Oracle’s engagement and the provision of a dedicated and competent Customer Success Manager have been key for the success of our project. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is a robust, secure, and performant environment where we have been able to deploy Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 and its customizations while setting up a disaster recovery site.”
—David Aubert, CIO & Innovation Project Leader, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe S.A.S.
Darling Ingredients: Sustainable ingredient company moves Oracle applications to the cloud
“Performance improvements were an unanticipated benefit. For example, one payroll application which formerly took six and a half hours now completed in under three hours.”
— Tom Morgan, Oracle Apps DBA Manager, Darling Ingredients
As soon as their deployment was in place, the team was immediately able to provision quickly and (where needed) tear down quickly, speeding up time-to-solution while also controlling costs. The combination of the EBS technology stack and simple billing has enabled Darling to track usage, map costs to projects, and cross-charge internally for resource consumption. They are now confidently looking forward to moving their remaining on-premises production applications to OCI.
“Now, we’ve got a modern, scalable IT platform that supports our growth, and we’ve redeployed our data center employees to focus on revenue-generating activities. It’s a much more engaging work environment for them.”
— Mike Fitzgerald, Vice President of IT, HID
HID completed migration of their development, test, production, and QA environments for Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Agile PLM, Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle SOA, and Oracle Discoverer, plus Vertex and other third-party applications, on time and in budget. By migrating to Oracle Cloud and upgrading EBS from Release 12.1.3 to 12.2.7 to support subscription billing, HID went from requiring four weeks to onboard a contract to just a few hours.
"Instead of pre-purchasing incremental hardware, or waiting through a long procurement process, we can deploy new database instances with a few clicks in the portal. We’re seeing superior reliability and faster time to solution than with our on-premises deployment, which speeds our development. And we’re saving 35% compared to what we paid for AWS."
— Romi Halimman, Founder and President Intellinum, Inc.
“The story with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is that it’s better, cheaper and faster than what we had on-premises. We’re seeing jobs that used to take a couple hours to run, getting completed in minutes now on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.”
— Ron Hunsaker, Vice President of Enterprise Application Services, Maritz
“We were expecting some performance improvements when we moved to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, but we weren’t expecting it to be that good. Our business stakeholders are coming up to us saying that their queries are coming up faster. Overall, we would estimate a 20-30% improvement in performance.”
— Rishabh Sinha, Senior Director, Enterprise Applications, Murad
