Cloning Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) environments on OCI is a routine requirement for test, refresh, and lifecycle operations. The cloning process described in MOSFS Article ID KA1332 — introduced as part of the recent certification of EBS 12.2 on Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure — has now been expanded to include support for Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure.

As a result, the same cloning process now applies to both service types:

Cloning process overview

The main steps in the cloning process are:

  • Prepare the source environment by completing patching cycles and running preclone steps
  • Provision the target Exadata environment (Dedicated or Exascale) and create a compatible CDB
  • Clone the PDB using the OCI Console and perform required post-clone database steps
  • Configure the target system by running AutoConfig and setting up the application tier

Key considerations

  • Cloning must be performed within the same tenancy, region, and availability domain
  • The source and target must use the same service type
  • Network connectivity between environments is required
