As a follow up to our previous announcement on the certification of cross platform migration to Oracle Cloud, we are pleased to announce that the use of cross platform incremental backup is now certified for Oracle E-Business Suite Releases 12.1 (12.1.3) and 12.2 (12.2.3 or higher) with Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1.0).
Incremental backup is a feature that further reduces downtime when performing a cross platform database migration using Transportable Tablespaces. This is achieved by use of rman to perform endian conversion of data, whilst using export/import (datapump) for metadata only.
Using the incremental backup option, an initial backup of tablespaces is converted and migrated. Subsequent incremental backups in a roll forward phase are then performed, followed by a final transport phase to the target platform to complete the database migration. Downtime is required only for this final phase, and for any metadata that needs to be migrated by export/import.
