At Oracle, open source is at the core of our innovation. We’re committed to building cutting-edge solutions using open-source technologies while actively contributing to the broader open-source ecosystem. From cloud native infrastructure to Kubernetes, our investments empower developers to push boundaries and shape the future of computing and application development.
Investing in Open-Source Growth: Oracle’s Support for CNCF
At KubeCon 2023 in Chicago, we made a bold commitment—$3 million per year for three years in Arm-based compute credits to support CNCF projects on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This contribution has enabled the CNCF to adopt OCI to operate critical projects like Kubernetes.io, Kube-burner, OpenKruise, Open Platform for Enterprise AI, Longhorn, Crossplane, DevStats, OpenTelemetry, NATS, KCP, Kubeflow, and GitHub Actions.
Open Source in Action: Oracle-Powered Solutions
At KubeCon 2025, we’ll showcase how Oracle enables the large-scale deployment of open-source AI models on OCI. Whether deploying LLMs with Hugging Face, orchestrating ML workflows with Kubeflow, or building intelligent search tools with LangChain, we’re empowering developers to create powerful business applications with enterprise-grade security and performance.
Oracle is also championing open-source Kubernetes innovation by actively supporting and contributing to Helm, the go-to package manager for Kubernetes. The latest Helm 3.17 release on OCI offers seamless compatibility with Kubernetes 1.30, improved security through enhanced secret handling, and more robust rollback capabilities. Enhanced debugging and clearer error messaging streamline operations, making Kubernetes deployments faster, more secure, and easier to manage.
Additionally, Oracle is integrating open-source AI into our cloud-native solutions, particularly in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Our RAG implementation, built on open-source frameworks like LangChain and GitIngest, supports the Mistral-7B model and can be deployed on the OCI Kubernetes Engine (OKE). This enables developers to build intelligent applications with OCI’s scalable infrastructure.
Key Innovations for Developers
We continue to launch game-changing innovations for developers and application builders; some key ones are mentioned here.
- Availability of OCI Generative AI Agents platform, helping organizations build, deploy, and manage AI agents for the enterprise.
- Support for NVIDIA GPU Operator enables automation of GPU installation and configuration.
- The new 5000-mode OKE cluster boosts scalability for larger and more complex workloads.
- OCI AI Blueprints simplify the deployment and monitoring of Gen AI workloads, reducing GPU onboarding from weeks to just minutes.
- Finally, native IPv6 support in OKE helps customers with the next generation of networking.
Oracle remains the largest contributor to the Java ecosystem, introducing new innovations that empower millions of developers worldwide. We recently released Java 24, reinforcing Oracle’s commitment to Java. As the steward of OpenJDK, Oracle works closely with the global community to enhance Java for applications in AI, post-quantum cryptography, and next-generation enterprise systems. With innovations like GraalVM for cloud-native workloads and machine-learning-driven optimizations, Oracle continues to push the boundaries of performance and resource efficiency with GraalVM.
Beyond Java, we support CNCF projects with $3 million in annual Arm-based compute credits. We recently welcomed Traefik Labs, which provides Kubernetes-first API management to enterprises, into the Oracle Cloud Marketplace.
