If you’re a cloud lover, Oracle’s presence at DeveloperWeek 2023 will rock your world. Not only are we giving an Open Talk about managed Kubernetes (and a virtual version of the talk a week after Developer Week), but we’re also sponsoring two —count ’em, two—hackathons!

And for those who can’t attend Developer Week in-person, be sure to snag a virtual booth pass to witness demystify managed Kubernetes.

So let’s start with this, if you’re a developer, every week is Developer Week, right? Kind of. While you may not be celebrated like you should every week, we’ll make you feel like you’re the life of the party. If you’re familiar with modern development (and why wouldn’t you be?), you know how important the cloud is when you’re in the planning stages for your app or product. It seems like these days, you can’t go anywhere on Developer Internet without seeing constant discussions about managing all of these things — which is where Kubernetes comes in.

And look, Kubernetes is great and all, but there just might be more to it than you realize. Like, what’s this thing called “managed Kubernetes,” what makes it different than your father’s K8s, and why should you use it? To answer these questions and more, Oracle’s Ajay Chhabria is making his DeveloperWeek debut.

Ajay, a Product Manager on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure team, will discuss how a cloud-managed Kubernetes platform abstracts away the infrastructure responsibilities of service owners, meets internal requirements around availability and security, and simplifies the developer experience. He’ll explore Container Engine for Kubernetes, but more generally discuss:

  • Defining managed Kubernetes services and the advantages of using them
  • Understanding the differences between an unmanaged vs managed Kubernetes cluster on a cloud platform
  • Creating your own cluster from scratch vs managing a Kubernetes cluster on a cloud platform
  • How a cloud managed Kubernetes platform abstracts away the infrastructure responsibilities of service owners, meets internal requirements around availability and security, and simplifies the dev experience

And you said there’s a hackathon?

Two of them to be exact! You can read the guidelines here, but just know that the prizes are incredible. They include:

  • Oracle Cloud Credits ($1,000)
  • Air Pods, an Oracle Cloud Certification
  • Oracle Swag (T-shirt, water bottle, backpack, Red Bull Racing hat)

And that’s just for one type of winner.
