It may be getting colder out, but all things Oracle CloudWorld are just heating up. Bringing the heat this year at OCW will be Max Verstappen (in-person!), incredible technical content, and so much more.

Really, though, we here on the DevRel team are most looking forward to all the games and networking opportunities available to attendees at OCW 2022. And it’s all happening in the DevNucleus.

We hear you asking, “What is the DevNucleus and how are you fitting so many games and networking events in it?” Great question.

The DevNucleus is an area of the showroom floor where all of the developer-centered magic happens. There, you can discover what’s new with AI, machine learning, and DevOps. Interact with technical experts from the cloud and open source communities, check out new technologies up close, and mingle with fellow developers — what’s not to love? DevNucleus will be part of the Developer Hub experience, which you can find more about on the Developer Hub page.

Games play a huge roll at OCW (not sorry for the game pun). From learning about them in Ignacio Martinez’s talk, “League of Legends Machine Learning—Introduction to Neural Networks,” to IRL games you can play between sessions. Get to know your fellow attendees over bouts of ping pong (excuse us, “table tennis”) or cornhole*.

Networking, too, is a huge part of OCW’s DNA. Connecting with other attendees is of course a great feature of OCW, but enjoying access to the experts who will be presenting their demos, lightning talks, and hands-on labs is where the real value comes in. Bring your AI/ML, Cloud, and language-specific questions so you can thoroughly pick your peers’ brains at CloudWorld.

Also, if you’re a Java developer, or even Java-curious, head on over to the Java blog to check out their post, “JavaOne Update Series: Run of Show.” It’s there that you can checkout the activity details on the Java side of OCW, including details about how attendees can freely access Oracle University’s digital training for both cloud and Java Certification. This page is just begging you to bookmark it!

Some talks we’re really excited about include Paul Jenkins’ “Multicloud Kubernetes Cluster Lifecycle Management” demo. Paul’s going to show how the Cluster API Provider for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure enables you to be part of a multicloud Kubernetes solution.

If you’re passionate about open-source, you’re going to want to attend “Secure your applications with the easy button – OCI and open source Zero Trust.” This session will introduce you to the Zero Trust Networking concepts, how to easily apply it to your applications, API’s, and K8’s Pods in minutes using open source, and how to give “ziti” super powers for your applications; no more exposed ports, lateral movements or VPN headaches.

Oh, and did we mention there’s a hackathon?

Developers will set up a web server with chatbot functionality using arm-based OCI Ampere A1 instances with Ampere AI. We’ll present a step-by-step guide to set up an NGINX server along with one of the Natural Language Processing (NLP) models (BERT, or similar) using Ampere AI-accelerated TensorFlow and PyTorch frameworks. If you think you have what it takes, you can find out more by joining OCW’s public Slack channel.

We can’t wait to see you at OCW! A just a tip – be sure not to throw the corn hole bean bag like a basketball. I’ve done that at parties and was asked to leave.

*”Cornhole” may be a regional name for what others call “bag toss.” Either way, this game is a laid-back excuse to be a little physical, but ultimately just chat with your opponent.
