We are excited to introduce the new Assessment functionality in OCI Database Migration Service (DMS). It is designed to guide users through even the most complex migrations by providing a guided, step-by-step process focused on ensuring a seamless experience from planning to execution.
OCI Database Migration is a fully managed service that delivers a high-performance, self-service experience for homogeneous migrations from MySQL and Oracle databases to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). It supports both online and offline logical migrations, enabling enterprise-scale database transitions with minimal downtime. Built on industry-leading technologies including Oracle Zero Downtime Migration for Oracle databases, MySQL Shell for MySQL databases, and Oracle GoldenGate for change data capture. OCI Database Migration ensures reliable and efficient data movement to the cloud.
Key Benefits of DMS Assessment:
- Guided Migration Path: Receive expert guidance as DMS proposes the optimal migration type based on your specific inputs, helping you choose the best approach with confidence.
- Compatibility Checks: Automatically identify incompatible objects between source and target databases, with clear documentation of issues, their impact, recommended actions, and automated fixups when available.
- Configuration Validation: Detects missing database configurations and prepares your databases preventing potential obstacles that might affect your migration.
- Test Table Migration (Optional): Validate your setup with an optional test table migration, ensuring everything is ready for a smooth transition.
Under the Migration & Disaster Recovery>Database Migration menu, click on the new option “Assesments” and you can start a new assessment with the “Create assessment” button.
