Windows Server 2016 Datacenter on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Andy Corran
Principal Product Manager

I am excited to announce the immediate availability of Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.  This latest addition to our portfolio of Oracle-provided operating system images helps you move and run your existing Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition workloads on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. You can deploy the Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s BM.Standard2.52 and BM.DenseIO2.52 shapes starting today in all regions at the same price as the current Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition images. For current pricing, view our pricing page.

Customers deploying Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition benefit from the following capabilities:

Hyper-V – Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition enables customers to deploy Microsoft Hyper-V on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s BM.Standard2.52 and BM.DenseIO2.52 shapes. When customers move their existing virtual machines from an on-premises Hyper-V environment, they benefit from the elasticity, global reach, and price performance of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Currently, customers can deploy up to eight Hyper-V hypervisors per virtual cloud network. Hyper-V features such as live migration and clustering are not yet enabled and we will update this blog when those capabilities become available.

Bare Metal Compute Instances – Customers can launch the Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition on Oracle’s latest generation of bare metal shapes (BM.Standard2.52 and BM.DenseIO2.52 ) whenever and wherever they want it, for however long they need it, and pay only for what they use.

Enables Third Party Partner Solutions –  With the support for Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure now enables a rich ecosystem of third party solutions. Watch this space for exciting announcements coming soon!
