Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Cloud Engineering and Qdrant are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking addition to OCI solutions: Qdrant vector database on Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes (OKE). This new offering represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing you with industry-leading solutions for machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in the cloud. This solution enables enterprise organizations to realize the benefits of vector search without sacrificing or altering their existing environments. If you’re with an enterprise IT organization looking to leverage machine learning against your organization’s data, this information is important. If you’re a developer looking to continue to use Qdrant while gaining access to Oracle’s infrastructure of services, this news is welcome.
Product overview
Qdrant is an open source vector database that makes it easy to add vector search to production applications. It combines state-of-the-art vector search functionality, advanced features such as filtering, storage, and distributed infrastructure to provide high performance and reliability at any scale. Customers can avoid preparing algorithms or building and maintaining separate infrastructure for vector search. In practice, Qdrant is used to power complex AI applications, such as semantic search engines, recommendation systems, information retrieval systems for audio, images and text, and customer services, such as chatbots. The most significant emerging use case for Qdrant is as a complement to large language models (LLMs), where it augments AI stacks as a long-term memory extension for AI applications with RAG architecture.

Qdrant for enterprise users
As enterprises continue to adopt Kubernetes, we recognize the need to seamlessly integrate mission-critical vector databases into this dynamic environment. Qdrant on Kubernetes seamlessly interacts with enterprise-level bare metal setups and offers a powerful and scalable solution with minimal configuration.
Similarity databases allow developers to innovate and create unique experiences powered by vector search. For developers building AI applications that need efficient storage and retrieval of rich data to provide computer vision, natural language progressing (NLP), or multimodal recommendation engines, Qdrant provides the leading performance and scalability, ease of use, and secure data handling. AI applications running on OCI can offer better personalized recommendations, recognize visual content, analyze text, and detect anomalies.
Running a vector database on OCI’s Kubernetes platform offers several benefits, including improved scalability and reliability, simplified deployment and management, seamless integration with other OCI services, efficient resource utilization, and enhanced security provisions.
Setting up Qdrant on OCI Kubernetes
Helm charts provide a convenient and repeatable way to deploy and manage Qdrant in Kubernetes clusters. They encapsulate the necessary configurations and resources, making it easier to deploy and maintain Qdrant, while ensuring consistency across different environments. Getting started is simple because Qdrant already offers a premade Helm chart to install and bootstrap Qdrant clusters on OCI Kubernetes.
helm repo add qdrant https://qdrant.to/helm
helm install qdrant-release qdrant/qdrant
Each Qdrant cluster can be configured with a fixed amount of vCPU, RAM, and Disk. Running a distributed cluster is supported with minimal configuration changes to the values.yaml file.
Upcoming integration initiatives
Over the coming months, Qdrant and the OCI Cloud Engineering team collaborate to bring together a complete integration that supports OKE. Our goal is to seamlessly integrate with OCI services to utilize autoscaling, monitoring, observability, and other aspects necessary to distributed systems.
We’re excited to collaborate with our customers and partners to unlock the full potential of Qdrant on Kubernetes. This latest addition to our Oracle Cloud Infrastructure solution portfolio signifies our dedication to empowering you with innovative solutions that drive digital transformation and enable your business to thrive in today’s dynamic landscape.
