One of the main barriers to digital transformation and cloud migration is IT complexity. The distribution of workloads across edge, core, and cloud infrastructure, combined with the adoption of newer technologies like Kubernetes containers, are just a few examples of how IT complexity is increasing. Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and the Dell Data Protection Suite simplify IT operations by giving administrators a consistent way to manage and protect critical data and applications across their on-premises and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environments.

Ease of deployment and consistent experience

With Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, organizations don’t need to refactor or rearchitect their applications when migrating them to the cloud. So, customers can seamlessly deploy their VMware applications in OCI with a lift-and-shift approach. They can migrate their existing on-premises virtual machines (VMs) into an Oracle Cloud VMware Solution environment and immediately benefit from the elastic scale and performance of OCI.

Managing VMs in Oracle Cloud VMware Solution is easy because IT administrators can use the same VMware tools they used on-premises. These two features exemplify how you can reduce IT complexity when running VMware workloads in an Oracle Cloud VMware Solution environment.

To make IT even simpler, Dell Data Protection Suite is now certified with Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, giving organizations common tools to protect their VMware workloads and data from any location. With this certification, customers can reduce IT complexity while delivering increased data mobility and increased data storage efficiencies across hybrid cloud environments.

Dell Data Protection Suite offerings deliver a number of important use cases, including backups to the cloud, backup in the cloud, and disaster recovery in the cloud. This combination also brings the following benefits to Oracle Cloud VMware Solution users:

  • VMware operational control: In Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, customers have ESXi root credentials. This gives customers complete control over VMware upgrades in their cloud environment and enables them to use the same VMware tools for managing VMware provisioning, storage, and lifecycle policies in the cloud as they do on-premises. This level of control helps ensure operational consistency across hybrid cloud environments.

  • Expanded storage: With Oracle Cloud VMware Solution’s larger locally attached storage options, customers can deploy PowerProtect Data Domain Virtual Edition (DDVE) to its max supported capacity in the cloud just as they do on-premises.

  • Transparent snapshots: As a unique feature only available on Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, transparent snapshots lower costs and greatly simplify VM backup management. Through an ESX-based plugin, transparent snapshots enable organizations to back up VMware snapshots with zero disruption to production workloads. Transparent snapshots place minimal overhead on the ESXi host and requires no extra storage resources to back up VMs, resulting in up to five-times faster backups, up to six-times faster restores, and up to five-times reduction in VM latency. These features give Oracle Cloud VMware Solution customers a seamless way to protect critical data and workloads while keeping cloud infrastructure costs to a minimum.

  • Cloud-efficient protection: With delivering direct integration with VMware vSphere environments to automatically detect and protect VMware workloads (VMs and Kubernetes containers), Dell Data Protection Suite delivers efficient ways to protect data and add to the built-in security in OCI with data deduplication that reduces the physical storage footprint required to store and archive critical data. When combined with application direct technologies, organizations can also minimize the payload of data transfers to and from the cloud and between cloud regions, helping to reduce cloud egress costs.

  • Manage and protect traditional and modern workloads: Oracle Cloud VMware Solution supports VMware Tanzu Standard Edition, giving organizations a consistent way to deploy and manage Kubernetes containers across hybrid cloud environments. Likewise, Dell PowerProtect Data Manager enables organizations to automate the protection of Kubernetes containers in Oracle Cloud VMware Solution environments. Data Manager also provides self-service capabilities through the UI and open APIs to reduce IT administrative overhead and empower key end-users like developers to protect and recover their own workloads.

  • Access and apply any of the Dell data protection platforms with Data Protection Suite: With Dell Data Protection Suite, customers get access to PowerProtect Data Manager, Avamar, NetWorker, and a common storage target in PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition. Under a single service license agreement (SLA) backed by Dell, customers don’t need to choose which Dell applications to use within Oracle Cloud VMware Solution.

Try it for yourself!

Oracle Cloud VMware Solution provides the flexibility of the cloud while giving the customers same control as their on-premises VMware environment. Together Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and the Dell Data Protection Suite reduce IT complexity so organizations can spend less time managing hybrid cloud infrastructure and more time focusing on key business initiatives to accelerate digital transformation.
