Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer and Roving Edge Infrastructure services were a hit at Oracle CloudWorld 2024,  Oracle’s edge services enable the same OCI IaaS – compute, storage and networking capabilities deployed across a customer’s distributed operations, whether connected or air-gapped (disconnected). OCI’s edge services offer customers the flexible and modular hardware options to scale from an 8 OCPU single node (Roving Edge Infrastructure) up to 6,600 cores on a multi-rack (Compute Cloud@Customer). These options can also be NVIDIA GPU-accelerated to bring performant AI solutions to the edge. OCI edge services also enable customers to develop applications in a core cloud region and deploy across their distributed operations – while benefiting from cloud economics, as well as simplified and secure management, and address data residency requirements.

Here are some key takeaways from the Oracle CloudWorld 2024:

Newly Announced: 2nd Generation Oracle Roving Edge Device (RED) with 3 configurations: Standard, NVIDIA L4 Tensor Core GPU-accelerated, and Storage Optimized. CloudWorld attendees viewed the Rover in action supporting use cases at the edge for vision AI, inferencing, as well as general-purpose workloads. Click here to learn more!

Coming Soon:

  • Enhanced networking capabilities on Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer with the release of SR-IOV to meet the sub-millisecond latency and high-throughput requirement of Telco workloads
  • Native Disaster Recovery Solution for Oracle Private Cloud Appliance followed by Compute Cloud@Customer
  • Oracle WebLogic - Oracle Cloud Metered Marketplace Image available to purchase and consume on Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer. Additional OCI marketplace images coming soon
  • RedHat OpenShift on OCI Edge Cloud – Run OpenShift versions 4.14 and 4.15 on the Compute Cloud@Customer and Roving Edge Infrastructure

Sessions at Oracle CloudWorld 2024:

The OCI edge product team hosted a variety of sessions spanning industries across AI/ML, security, edge infrastructure and cloud computing with speakers from NVIDIA, Intel, Deloitte, Accenture, and Oracle Government, Defense and Intelligence (GDI). The OCI edge product team also hosted a podcast with Intel expanding on how Oracle Roving Edge Infrastructure delivers AI@the Edge in connected and air-gapped locations.

  • OCI Edge Cloud Customer Advisory Board
    • Select OCI edge customers participated in the invitation-only Customer Advisory Board to get a first-hand look at all the planned innovations and features, and provided inputs on roadmaps by sharing their feedback and use cases. In order to participate in future Customer Advisory Boards, please reach out to your Oracle account team
  • OCI Edge - Enable Generative AI from the Edge to the Cloud
    • The OCI edge product management team hosted a hands-on lab, showcasing how customers can deploy a RAG Application on a Roving Edge Device – while running disconnected from the public cloud. For customers who could not attend, the showcase is available on Oracle LiveLabs

OCI edge services deliver cloud services and innovations across customers distributed operations from datacenters to the far edge running in the most austere environments.
