We know that operating your cloud business requires you to have control over the use of resources and flexibility to quickly adjust for cost management. To help, we’re announcing Resource Scheduler. This new feature is available from the Governance & Administration section in the Oracle Cloud Console and enables you to proactively manage resource consumption and costs natively in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) platform.

Resource Scheduler acts on resources in a tenancy or group of managed tenancies on a scheduled basis at the root compartment level. This functionality allows you to schedule the start and stop of onboarded resource types and manage a resource’s lifecycle individually or centrally across an entire tenancy. You benefit from this feature if you want to automatically pause and resume resources to save costs and plan your workloads in advance, especially if you have resources that don’t require 100% uptime.

Resource Scheduler

Resource Scheduler also adds to OCI’s cost management and optimization capabilities. For example, you can schedule resources used for development purposes to pause on nights and weekends outside routine hours when application development is taking place.

You can filter within Resource Scheduler by resource tags to identify resources that you want to schedule a start or stop daily, weekly, monthly or date-specific cycle for. Similarly, you can add tags to your scheduled operation so you can easily monitor activities in your compartment or tenancy. This operation acts on resources in each tenancy or group of managed tenancies on a scheduled basis at the root compartment level.

For example, eCommerce customers find this extremely valuable where spikes in their business traffic happen during known times of the year like during Black Friday and the weeks leading up to the holidays.
