Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Object Storage team is happy to announce that it has completed technical validation of Vertica Eon Mode with the OCI Object Storage service. This certification testing confirms compatibility between OCI Object Storage and Vertica in Eon Mode through functionality and performance tests.
Test details
The Vertica Analytics Platform is a purpose-built, read-optimized database designed to manage rapidly growing volumes of data and deliver insights faster than any analytical big data warehouse in the marketplace. Vertica is ANSI SQL compliant, and it extends SQL to a rich set of machine learning (ML) and advanced analytics features, at scale, without the need for data movement. Eon Mode is now available on OCI with OCI Object Storage used for S3 compatible storage.
With Vertica in Eon Mode, a primary, durable data copy resides in your shared communal storage. An intelligent cache called the Depot, local to each Compute node, ensures high performance by storing a copy of the data most relevant to the workload. This setup makes separating storage and compute straight forward by provisioning the right amount of compute resources for queries and the right amount of storage resources for data.
OCI Object Storage is an internet-scale, high-performance storage platform that offers reliable and cost-efficient data durability. Object Storage can store an unlimited amount of unstructured data of any content type, including analytic data and rich content, like images and videos. OCI Object Storage enables customers to securely store any type of data in its native format. With built-in redundancy, Object Storage is ideal for building modern applications that require scale and flexibility, as it can be used to consolidate multiple data sources for analytics, backup, or archive purposes.
OCI Object Storage supports S3 compatible API, which Vertica uses to store and access the data. The Vertica S3 benchmark test suite based on TPC-DS was used to validate compatibility. More tests were conducted on test databases of different sizes with Vertica Depot on and off. Vertica database backup and recovery was also tested with OCI Object Storage. All the compatibility, performance, and stress tests passed with results better than with other leading cloud providers.

Conclusion
OCI and Vertica customers can now use Vertica in Eon Mode with data stored in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage. For more information, see the following resources:
