Jump-Start Development by Using Oracle Autonomous Linux and Always Free Services

Julie Wong
Product Management Director

At this year’s Oracle OpenWorld conference, Oracle made a number of exciting announcements, including the introduction of Oracle Autonomous Linux and the Oracle Cloud Free Tier program. The Free Tier offers Always Free services so that anyone can try Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for an unlimited time, and it extends the Oracle Cloud Free Trial program. Oracle has now enabled Oracle Autonomous Linux to run on Always Free compute services, which lets developers and anyone who wants to jump-start the next big idea build and test modern applications in the cloud—all for free for an unlimited time.

Experience Autonomous Linux for Free

Oracle Autonomous Linux is now an Always Free–eligible operating system (OS) on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, joining Oracle Linux, Canonical Ubuntu Linux, and CentOS Linux. Oracle Autonomous Linux is powered by the industry-proven Oracle Linux operating environment. Its autonomous patching capabilities reduce management complexity and human error, and deliver increased cost savings, security, and system reliability. Always Free compute services offer up to two compute virtual machine (VM) instances, 1/8 of an OCPU, and 1 GB of memory.

This is great news for anyone who wants to get started quickly and test drive Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. You don't need to worry about maintaining the OS or rebooting systems when patching the kernel and key user spaces (glibc and OpenSSL) because of Autonomous Linux's built-in Oracle Ksplice zero-downtime patching technology. As a result, you can focus more of your time on building and testing your application, and get hands-on experience developing in the cloud. And best of all, it doesn’t cost you anything.

Together with the Free Tier bundle of services (including Oracle Autonomous Database, compute, and storage), Oracle Autonomous Linux lets you develop, test, and deploy applications in a self-patching, highly secure, and reliable operating environment. Running Oracle Autonomous Linux on Always Free resources also means that you can use Oracle Cloud without interruption, without the need to budget for minimal resources, and without the constraint of service-provider free-trial deadlines.

Subscribe for More Free Services

Oracle Autonomous Linux is free to use when deployed on the Free Tier and paid Oracle Cloud resources. As a paying Oracle Cloud Infrastructure subscriber, you have even more free services available to you. When you run Oracle Autonomous Linux on paid Oracle Cloud Infrastructure resources, you can enjoy all the Oracle Linux Premier Support level benefits, including world-class support services and many Oracle Cloud tools and enhancements at no additional cost.
